After the mess of Christmas I'm on a tidying mission, utterly fed up of clutter so I'm having a big tidy. Anyone else? Would love some mutual motivation!

What have you done so far? I've got a load of rubbish outside ready for the van MSN to collect tomorrow and im now on the kitchen!

Yes! Just spent three hours I. My daughters Bedroom happily folding clothes and pairing Barbie shoes.

For all other intents and purposes I'm a completely sane woman. But I've discovered Stacey Solomons sort your life out and I'm self isolating due to Covid so the two together are a baaaaad combination!!!

thesnailandthewhale · 28/12/2021 15:58

Yep, Christmas tree has gone to the tip, all the decs are away in the loft and next I'm going to tackle my wardrobe and under my bed.

Rexthesnail · 28/12/2021 15:59

Ohh I'll have a look at that. I'm in a kinda self imposed lockdown as I'm CEV and in a city.

I've just cleaned the bins, wiped the sides down and im about to empty and load the dishwasher. What's next on your list?

I did mine yesterday, it felt so good!

I'm naturally someone who doesn't like 'things'. My friends always say my house looks like it's been robbed because there's nothing on display, despite having 3 primary aged kids. It's not that they don't have loads of stuff, it's just I've learnt how to hide it well - a place for everything and everything in its place.

Currently 'sorting' the drinks cabinet and chocolate stash Wink

Rexthesnail · 28/12/2021 16:02

@thesnailandthewhale I need to do underneath my bed when I eventually got round to it. Taking the tree down felt so good!

@hashbrownsandwich I'm similar, I hate clutter. I may sort the alcohol out later too!

For me it’s still the Christmas period. That will be over once New Years is done. It’s been a long hard year and I want to extend the holiday mood as long as I can! But from next week I will be starting my big sort out too. Although I am not in any way a minimalist. I like my stuff and don’t need or want to get rid of it. But everything does have a place and there are some things that could go or be better organised.

PumpkinPiesandapples · 28/12/2021 17:28

Yes dh is off work so it’s the perfect opportunity for me to get the decluttering and organising done I love it. Dh looks after the dc and I just get on with it, I absolutely love it because having a tidy clean organised house is so good for my mental health

ChikiTIKI · 28/12/2021 18:01

Ooh yes I am trying my best to sort stuff out. There's 4 of us in a 2 bed house, with a new baby and a house move coming up in the next month (well the baby definitely is, not sure yet about house move date...).

Took down the christmas decs today. I also got rid of all the christmas roast leftovers on to pizzas which we had for tea. I made chocolate Brownies using a load of Christmas chocolate and I've individually wrapped and frozen all the pieces on a bag. Those will be saved for when the baby is born.

Clothes are next. I already got all my tops out, binned a load and put back what I am keeping. I need to do all the other drawers as there's no room for this baby to have their own set of drawers so I need to empty about half of mine.

Only problem is it hurts so much to stand or walk (pelvis pain) and I'm so anaemic, I'm just really out of breath when I do anything (even sitting on the sofa reading stories). So I am motivated but slow...

ImmutableSexQueen · 28/12/2021 18:02

Well, yes, but it's been going on for years.

MadMadMadamMim · 28/12/2021 18:04

I did take a load to the tip today. About 6 bin bags full of shoes that are worn out/outgrown, a broken hoover and several broken plastic tubs, etc. These are things that have been lurking at the bottom of my hallway/in the cupboard under the stairs,

It's satisfying.

BrownEyedWoman · 28/12/2021 18:13

I've got some bin bags of kids clothes to sell, but wondering if better to donate? At least then I can get them out of the house. Going to do hallway and go through the millions of shoes, boxes of books and kids toys, tomorrow hopefully. Hard to let go of some of them as memories of kids being small - but need more space in the house! Any advice about letting stuff go?

badg3r · 28/12/2021 21:39

I cleared out toys at the beginning of December. A lot of them are still under tree but there is a space in the cupboard waiting for them when we tidy it all away!

flowerycurtain · 29/12/2021 13:08

@BrownEyedWoman there is a charity shop near us that gives children a certificate of kindness for letting go of their toys. I was going to sell their old trunkies but took them into the same shop who said they would pass them on to a local women's refuge as they'd be good for children having to move about.

That made me feel better that they're being put to good use

Rexthesnail · 30/12/2021 09:16

@flowerycurtain having been in refuge twice Trunkies are a FANTASTIC idea to donate to a women's refuge! They would have been perfect for all the moving about!

Well my house is all tidy, my son is going to his dads for 5 days so it's just me and my eldest! Looking forward to relaxing in a clutter free house this weekend!

@Rexthesnail sounds like you've got a lovely few days ahead of you!! Enjoy!!

JMAngel1 · 30/12/2021 10:11

Emily Norris uploaded a YT video yesterday just for this - very motivating.
I'm still in sloth mode but planning to kickstart house/exercise/diet overhaul from 10th Jan.

ChikiTIKI · 30/12/2021 14:32

Back to sorting clothes out this afternoon. I've got a load of identifying documents too... I need to take these to work ideally to put in confidential waste bin... Will have to ask for permission though because of covid... Isn't it frustrating when you cant just get rid of something!

workwoes123 · 30/12/2021 15:04

Yes! And I took a notion to paint the bathroom this morning. Which was not a good idea as everyone is home but I don't get any child / DH free time over the holidays .

workwoes123 · 30/12/2021 15:04

I wish they'd all just bugger off back to school / work so that I can sort stuff out and it stay that way for more than 5 minutes.

BrownEyedWoman · 04/01/2022 11:20

Thanks @flowerycurtain good to know! Well we had a big sort out and took 10 bin bags to the recycling centre/tip. Not many charity shops are accepting donations and I checked that the clothes get sorted and passed on to charities to sell directly. Am so glad things won't go to waste. Am also donating lots of unused toiletry gift sets to a women's refuge today. Still got lots to do but feel so much freer and like I can breathe at home! How's everyone else getting on?
