Smelly armpits!

I’m really worried. I do have health anxiety which isn’t helping.
My DD (6.5) has recently started smelling of BO under her armpits. I’ve googled it and it suggests early puberty which can be a sign of a brain tumour. I’m now in a spiral of anxiety and can’t think straight. Has anyone else’s daughter smelt a bit and what did it turn out to be?

How often does she shower/bathe and does she use bar soap or shower gel ?

GoodnightGrandma · 28/12/2021 07:59

And do you use biological powder or non-bio ?

My 6yo DD has had smelly armpits for a while. The doctors weren't concerned, she is tall for her age (size of 8yo probably).

Mine is really tall too around an 8 year old too.
I use non bio and she uses shower gel x

You might want to swap to bio powder and bar soap, it really will make a difference.

Switch the shower gel to soap.

What was the relevance of the height of your DD ItsTheTreasure? Does it mean early puberty? My DD has always been tall (DH and I are very short) x

My DD was the same at that age. I supervised armpit washing and bought a child friendly deodorant which I helped her to use. From memory it was called something like pit rock, you had to wet it before applying it so it was a bit of a faff! But no chemical nasties in it and it worked. Interestingly the BO seemed to be a hormone surge, at 13 now as long as she uses appropriate deodorant she’s never particularly smelly. Precocious puberty was something I worried about but it turned out not to be that - periods started at 12 1/2. Hope things turn out similarly well for your DD

Just seen someone else suggested using soap not shower gel - yes we made that change too although I think she only uses shower gel now

My 5 year old can smell occasionally if we've missed a wash, we use an antibacterial soap bar, it really helps.

Agree about proper soap. Also make sure she drinks enough. Don't know why but it makes a difference! I also worried about precocious puberty but it's quite rare and she's probably isn't that if BO is the only symptom.
