We took in a dobo hamster and my 12 year old absolutely loves him.
My son is autistic and selective mute and suffers from terrible anxiety, I have posted about the struggle it is sometimes. Anyway it has been so great to see him with the hamster. Talking to me about their needs looking after him and he has started talking to his hamster asking him “what do you want” and “what are you up too’ etc etc.
In the short time we have had him he has brought my son so much joy!
My son likes his research and has been researching how to look after D properly and has got a bit miffed that the cages sold in pet shops for small animals mostly are too small.
So he signed this petition and got the rest of the family to sign it.
He asked how can we get a few more signatures I told him I would try.
So please if you can sign , it will make him so happy to see that he managed to get a few more people to sign.

Ha! I’m getting mixed up it’s because his name begins with D.
Make mental note Robo!

Have signed Grin

Excellent that your DS felt more able to communicate with a stranger yesterday; & that hamster ownership generally is not only a joy for him but also a means of helping him to engage more with others.

It’s worth noting that the RSPCA no longer have a minimum permissible size for hamster cages, claiming a lack of evidence for making such a determination - they just say cages should be “as large as possible”. There’s some interesting information about differing recommendations in the UK, US & Germany available here.

Have you tried sharing on relevant Facebook groups OP? I imagine there are various hamster and small furry groups who would be on board with the cause
