We took in a dobo hamster and my 12 year old absolutely loves him.
My son is autistic and selective mute and suffers from terrible anxiety, I have posted about the struggle it is sometimes. Anyway it has been so great to see him with the hamster. Talking to me about their needs looking after him and he has started talking to his hamster asking him “what do you want” and “what are you up too’ etc etc.
In the short time we have had him he has brought my son so much joy!
My son likes his research and has been researching how to look after D properly and has got a bit miffed that the cages sold in pet shops for small animals mostly are too small.
So he signed this petition and got the rest of the family to sign it.
He asked how can we get a few more signatures I told him I would try.
So please if you can sign , it will make him so happy to see that he managed to get a few more people to sign.

We had to make our own cage out of a huge plastic storage crate when we got pet mice. And we had never made anything in our lives. Grin

Signed. We made this mistake with our hamster. Bought him a standard pet shop cage (which was actually one of the biggest in the shop) and afterwards found out it was actually far below recommended guidance (absolute minimum should be 80cm x 50cm and ended up buying him a bigger cage (100cm x 50cm) as he was obviously stressed and he was so much happier afterwards. I'm quite horrified when I see the size of some of the cages being sold in pet shops as suitable permanent pet homes. Well done to your son for raising awareness of this issue.
