A serious question about Brie...

Where is the best supermarket to buy a whole Brie for oven baking.

I bought one in Morrisons for Boxing Day with excitement. It came with its own reusable baking dish. Kids love a baked Brie.....

Dd1 took one mouthful and said meh....it was just so.....meh!

Where I live there is Morrisons, aldi, lidl, Sainsbury, tesco, Asda and Waitrose.....

Where do I need to go for a decent Brie?

Also what toppings do you recommend. We had one in a pub with walnuts and I think truffle oil? It was glorious!

I've only ever heard of baking camembert

I use camembert, not sure if that makes a difference - bit of oil, black pepper, cranberry jelly.

I reckon you need a Camembert not a brie, ideally.

I bake with honey, garlic and toasted hazelnuts.

Ideally I use le rustique, but that needs baking on a low temperature just until it's melted or it can get too strong. President is decent too, and I've had good luck with Asda extra special too.

Agree with pp - never heard of baking Brie. Maybe your husband is used to the taste of Camembert?

Another vote for baking Camembert.

There used to be a fashion for deep frying pieces of Brie in breadcrumbs and serving with mango chutney or cranberry sauce which I remember could be quite nice but just baked would be boring.

Agreeing with Camembert rather than Brie.

With all due respect to Morrison’s, who can’t be beaten when it comes to pies, I don’t think they know what they are doing with fancy foreign cheese

Camembert baked is much nicer than Brie.

I love Brie but have never baked it.

I've never baked Brie either. We're currently working our way though an M&S whole one which has a layer of truffle filling which is delicious

You don't bake Brie. I think the fact Morrisons sell one speaks about their cheese quality.

Do you have any fancy delis or cheese shops nearby? The most expensive cheese in Waitrose is going to be nicer than mozzas but if you want something really fancy you need to go to an independent

I've never baked brie, I do Camembert with garlic and chilli, yum.

We recently had fried breaded Brie (in a restaurant) - it was amazing. It definitely can be baked.

There's hundreds of recipes online for baked brie so it can't be that niche.

You can bake Brie. It tastes different to Camembert but should still taste good. Possibly it was underripe to be baked. Of your choices…Waitrose.

I've ordered and been served by friends baked Brie lots of times it's definitely a thing.
