New Year’s Eve

What are you doing for my Eve? There’s just us and 2 teens and the thought of a night in watching telly ( tho probably fine) is filling me with dread. We are all a bit bored and tellied out. What can we do to make it at least pleasant?

We’ll be doing the same. Im working till 5 (thankfully). Then its a takeaway, dry night for me. And bed. I loathe NYE. Overrated. Older teen will be in the pub (if she can find a table, stupid rule of 6 in wales), not sure where other teen will be. Possible house party. Young teen on his xbox all night no doubt!

No help to you really!

isitbedtimeplease · 27/12/2021 08:59

We're going to the local wildlife park all day and then a Chinese and board games. Me and two teens

JuneOsborne · 27/12/2021 09:00

Er, make cocktails and get blind drunk.

Or, more realistically, teach the teens to play poker.

We have friends coming for High Tea (not sure how many yet). It’s a Friday night so we will welcome in the Sabbath. When they leave we will drink champagne and watch tv and I will probably go to bed at my usual time.

Doublechins · 27/12/2021 09:03

DC are staying out and we are going to a friends house party.

grapewine · 27/12/2021 09:07

I'm going to get comfortably numb on wine, on my own. There will be chocolate. Hate NYE.

thismeansnothing · 27/12/2021 09:08

I'm supposed to be going out for a curry. Really don't want to. Half hoping it gets cancelled

gogohm · 27/12/2021 09:19

Awaiting hm government's proclamations ... have tickets for pub

Wilma55 · 27/12/2021 09:26

Dinner dance booked, 6 of us and staying at the hotel. Another one half hoping its cancelled.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/12/2021 09:31

Single parent of an 8yo so it will be a night in with telly for us too, sorry!

ShowOfHands · 27/12/2021 09:43

It was a revelation on MN to find out most people hate NY.

NYE is my birthday and last year I was 40. Everything was cancelled so we are hoping to do things this year instead. So steam train in the day with my family and then an afternoon tea made by my Mum. Later on we are going for a walk with friends before playing board games.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 27/12/2021 09:52

Night in but might do board games not telly.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/12/2021 10:21

New years eve is board game night here - we have pizza and let the dc stay up until midnight playing games (they are 10 and 8).

Peabody25 · 27/12/2021 10:29

Having a few family over for a buffet of leftover Christmas food and board games.

ParkheadParadise · 27/12/2021 10:37

I hate Hogmanay.
If I happened to be out at the bells I would go to the bathroom at 11.50 and stay there till 00.10 😂😂
We will have a takeaway a couple of drinks and probably go to bed before the bells.
Going to a friends house on New Year's day for our dinner.

KimmyKimdoo · 27/12/2021 10:38

We will make a scrap book of the year in the day time. We will pop into our small local town in the morning and print out lots of photos from our phones of various activities. We then sit and glue them into a scrap book and the DC put stickers/ glue sequins around them. Then we fetch the “time capsule” (just a big box of all our scrapbooks) down from the loft and we put them all out to read together with a few nice drinks. We’ll set the table nicely, put on a party dress/ shirt and make cocktails / mock tails for the kids in plastic champagne flutes. Music on, a few balloons around. Play boards games around the table, make a chocolate fondue. Last year we all wrapped up warm and went outside for a bit because there were loads of fireworks going off. We put the fire pit on and toasted some marshmallows which was nice. We put the kids to bed and then put a film on in bed, stayed up until midnight for a kiss and then straight to sleep!

FantasticCrete · 27/12/2021 10:50

We tend to have elaborate meals on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day involving lots of food preparations. For New Years, I am hoping for something much simpler. I also don't acer for celebrating on 31.12. but quite like to make 1.1. usually with friends over for lunch. This year, we will not socialise. Might go for a long beach walk and fish and chips. I like the idea of high tea on either 31.12. or 1.1. What would people serve for this?

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 27/12/2021 10:52

I’m pregnant, have Covid and 2 small children… so will almost certainly be asleep at midnight. But New Year’s Eve I think we will order some party food type nibbles, have some no-secco and maybe watch a film when the kids are in bed.

furbabymama87 · 27/12/2021 11:03

Food, drink, TV, music, maybe a board game.

Feelingoood · 28/12/2021 10:22

Wow Kimmykimdoo, how do you get so organised? That sounds amazing.

Some lovely ny eves here! Have two bored teenagers and live in middle of nowhere. So a takeaway is a far off dream!
Fantasticrete we have done high tea, that’s a great idea thanks for the reminder!
I made little ham, egg, cheese sarnies and scones with cream and jam, and little cakes. I think the main thing is to make everything tiny and dainty and have doilies and a proper teapot. The novelty value of that alone is fab! 😂

Both DDs are going out with their boyfriends and friends on NYE. DH and I are getting together with our 6 closest friends to eat, drink and be very, very merry.

Feelingoood · 01/01/2022 05:16

Thanks all and happy new year! I hope it’s a good one.
We survived! It was MUCH a better then anticipated! Best one ever actually, friends popped by then we watched cobra Kai! And missed midnight entirely. Oops!
So much nicer than the ticking clock and bored kids of yore.
