I'd love to earn six figures and keen to look into how I could make this happen if possible.

What is the Mumsnet 6 figures salary?

I think it refers to the fact that in RL (I think) about 7% of people earn a 6 figure salary, whereas on MN it seems more like 50%.

London : investment banking but been doing it for years and not so well paid before.

Economics degree but ended up in banking by accident. Stuck it out as back in the olden days it was a very toxic environment. Moved into IT for work / life balance. Have only every worked less that 37 hours a week but am mentally very tough as banking is FULL of deranged loonies who love only themselves and money.

What’s wrong with posting DH’s salary? The purpose of the thread is for ideas for OP - not as a boast. I don’t earn 6figs. DH might if u count pension but would like to go PT as it is stressful. It’s the difference between specialised tech (DH) and career changer to IT - on just over half his salary (me).

Not on 6 figures but would be (low 6 figures probably about 100-120k) if I worked full time. Business/strategic advisory in a niche sector after putting in several years growing businesses in that sector. Based in the SW but most of my clients are in London.

Polkadotties · 27/12/2021 12:30

Not me but OH. Back office investment banking based in London but currently wfh.

LuchiMangsho · 27/12/2021 12:32

Also for comparison most academics in the humanities in the UK don’t earn 6 figure salaries. Most lecturers are on between 35-45K and goes up to about 80K for a full professor in the humanities. You earn a bit more in the sciences. For this you need a bare minimum PhD and usually a first publication so many people are 35+ when/if they get their first job.

I agree that’s it’s a bit pointless (and cringy) to put your husband’s income on these threads.

This is mumsnet and most of the women posting here will have combined their career with having children in a way different to the average man’s career trajectory. What I find interesting on threads like this is the mothers who have managed to reach these high salaries.

You don't know that OP is a women, or if they have kids. The ask was for ideas of a six figure salary jobs, the information was relevant.

I am a mum on 145-160k in London. Work around 35 hrs a week, with flexibility. I am a specialist in a specific knowledge area that is reasonably important to big business. I am basically paid for my advice.

Insert1x20p · 27/12/2021 12:56

Asia Pac Regional Director for a corporate philanthropic foundation - still relevant as European Director based in London is same grade.

Prior to that Equities research - considerably higher six figures but also considerably more stress Grin

Majority of female friends on 100k and up are in corporate law, banking or asset management, technology, tax advisory or have senior financial roles (CFO etc).

@StrongerOrWeaker Hi, so some healthcare is covered- both DH and I pay for extra and we cover each other as well. He’s employed by a University that is also a teaching hospital. We both pay roughly 500 dollars a month extra in health insurance. We both have employer provided pensions and private pensions. We both got given a lump sum as a down payment for a mortgage when we joined (it’s interest free but effectively it’s written off) so together it was not an insubstantial amount. DH’s position is a mix of hard and soft money. He’s very good at getting grants which has contributed to his professional success- he’s currently on a couple of big NIH grants. Mine is a more bog standard humanities position.

Department head in FTSE 100 company. SE - hybrid working (3 days in office/2 WHF). Ba Hons, Postgraduate Business Administration, Postgraduate in Law and over 20 years sector experience. Probably went into 6 figures 5 years ago.

Had children later in life (40's) which allowed me to become established in my career before maternity leave and allowed me to pay for a nanny when I returned to work for flexibility (needed in my role).
