Pilates

Is there ANY benefit to doing Pilates once a week only? I can't fit it in any more than that but it almost feels like it's just not worth it. I do enjoy it though but if it's not going to improve my health / make me stronger then I might just use the time to add in another gym session

It's definitely worth it. I have really noticed a difference since I stopped and need to get back on it in the new year. For me it has really helped with general bendiness as well as pelvic floor stuff and a reduction in migraines, counteracting tech neck etc.

Definitely worth it. It's such a good workout.

I was in pain every day for 20 years until I started doing Pilates once a week!

Absolutely.. it's the best form of strengthening exercise imo. Even 10 mins a day is worth doing. I started once weekly classes but have missed loads due to being ill so my New Year resolution is to get back into it. Even after just two or three classes I felt a difference. It's a miracle work-out and especially good for helping with menopause, tackling stress and drop in muscle strength.

DropYourSword · 27/12/2021 04:39

I did it twice a week for a year and didn’t think it was doing much. Until I stopped due to illness and never got back to it. I have really noticed the difference when I haven’t been doing it. I think any is better than none, so you will get some benefit from it!

MrsDThomas · 27/12/2021 07:27

Oh tell me more! Is it better than yoga?

Wotrewelookinat · 27/12/2021 11:11

Yes definitely worth it. You might only do a class once a week, but you’ll be more aware every day of your posture, core muscles, pelvic floor etc etc. I did one class a week for a few years, stopped 5 years ago and am about to restart as I feel so much more achy and stiff without it.

OhRosalind · 27/12/2021 11:26

I think even short or occasional Pilates workouts are worth it as they’re so effective and strengthening your core and making you more aware of your posture.

I am obsessed with Lottie Murphy, I subscribe to her online studio but she has lots of free videos of all different lengths and levels on YouTube.

OhRosalind · 27/12/2021 11:33

I find yoga better for flexibility and strength (but I do quite dynamic yoga) and prefer yoga before bed as it’s more flowing and relaxing.

Pilates feels more technical, is better for core strength and posture, and has a faster, more noticeable toning effect (on me). It also doesn’t have any of the spiritual bits of yoga.
