Genuinely... Why are leftovers better than the actual Christmas Dinner?

Just polished off a plate of leftovers... It was undoubtedly better than the sit down meal yesterday.

Why!?

Because the food has had a chance to marinade

Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 19:41

I think it’s because the flavours have time to develop, also there often a lot going on Chris day and I’m the cook so I’m tasting as I cook and it takes the edge off. Today we are alone , relaxing and savouring. Bread sauce on cold turkey is delicious.

Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 19:41

Typo central

greenlynx · 26/12/2021 19:42

You are more relaxed and eat them the way you prefer.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 26/12/2021 19:43

They're not, not a patch on the main meal.

PuppyMonkey · 26/12/2021 19:43

As I was cooking Christmas dinner yesterday, DP and I were saying: “I’m already looking forward to tomorrow so we can have the leftovers.” Grin

Bluntness100 · 26/12/2021 19:43

For me the Meal is better, the leftovers the chorus line.

RandomDent · 26/12/2021 19:45

Chinese food as well!

elfycat · 26/12/2021 19:48

I had leftover trifle for breakfast (my tradition of 30+ years on Boxing Day), and Bubble and Squeak (with fried egg and baked beans) for tea.

Best day of the Xmas period.

Piginablankie · 26/12/2021 19:54

Boxing day food has been unbelievable. Easily done about 3000 calories today.

Marinate.

Marinade the noun.

We had unusual Christmas dinner yesterday as it was just a small group- salmon en croute, but I still enjoyed leftovers this evening!

Crankley · 26/12/2021 21:11

What could compete with cold chicken, pigs in blankets, stuffing, ham, salad, bubble and squeak, cranberry sauce, pickles? Best meal of the year!

AChickenCalledDaal · 26/12/2021 21:16

Because the food is still lovely, you can have it in absolutely whatever combination you fancy, and everyone is completely relaxed including the cook.

We sometimes have our roast dinner on Christmas eve specifically so we can eat leftovers all day on Christmas day. It's amazing but it confuses elderly relatives so we don't always go that far.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2021 21:17

The actual meal has the fluffy, crunchy, hot roast potatoes though.

I suppose the good thing about 'leftovers' is that you can eat delicious cheeses and biscuits instead of with them.

Phantom1 · 26/12/2021 21:21

Christmas Day dinner on the day is best for me. Leftovers are good because it saves cooking and/or preparing another full meal.

ChristingleJingle · 26/12/2021 21:38

Because a) you don't have to cook it and b) it invariably involves cheese

ghostmouse · 26/12/2021 22:33

Me and the eldest dd had an entire roast dinner made of leftovers from yesterday.

It was blooming lovely, tasted better and I polished off the lot, I enjoyed far better than yesterdays, was just the two of us, no stress.

HarrisMcCoo · 26/12/2021 22:38

I agree, in fact was just saying that to DH today!

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 26/12/2021 22:40

I said that today too, and we don’t even have turkey.
