no wonder women flee the living room to 'tidy up' have a gin & chat in the kitchen

it's sooo tedious.

I'm awaiting the board games to come out soon. I might need to go for a run.

merry christmas everyone

I'm not keen. I remember being friends with someone who had such a big family every Christmas they hired a hall for the day for lunch etc.
The afternoon games always ended up with one where they split into teams and had to make the longest line out of their clothes by stripping off. Shock

Shocksparkling

we are not that drunk quite yet

now it's a game about trying not to laugh.
the teens are contorting their faces.
and I'm getting merry with my sister in the kitchen.

I don't mind a good board game, but my ILs are into "proper party games". There are 20 people (including kids) rammed into a small living room and everyone is laughing and shrieking loudly. DS and I have retreated to another room with the dog for a while.

FIL came in laughing his leg off and saying I'd missed a great time... turned out they'd been playing a game that involved throwing and catching and someone had dropped the thing twice. Hysterical. 🙄

purplesequins · 26/12/2021 20:17

no throwing (yet) but they are now playing the tequila card game thingy.
the one where you blow a card off a deck of cards on top of a bottle.

no alcohol involved for them

I usually hate board games, my DP is verrrry competitive and always bloody wins!

Yesterday I played 3 different games, new ones he’d bought, “mens games” (cars, football, pub quiz) with 3 men including DP, and beat them all! Oh boy did I celebrate and rub it in 🥳🥳

purplesequins · 26/12/2021 20:25

my dad is so competitive he invents new rules if there is a danger he could lose Grin

I have no concentration span for board games, and I don't care about winning enough.
Never play Cluedo with DH , he uses the little pencils and pad supplied but also has a separate notebook for his own notes. Hmm

I am the only woman in a house of men. There are only a handful of games I'll play with them, otherwise I usually retreat upstairs while they bash it out with each other. They are sore losers, but even worse winners.

Angel2702 · 26/12/2021 20:57

I don’t like games, I have no competitive streak and don’t care about winning or losing so it’s tedious. We’ve never played games at christmas there’s never time but if we did I would quietly do something else.

it's complicated card games today.
am off to a long walk with my sister with a thermos of nice tea.

some of these games are so complicated, it seems to take longer explaining the rules than to play.

DS bought DD this:

www.wickeduncle.co.uk/childrens-presents/beat-that

I was crying at one point it was so funny. It's a bit task mastery where you are given a challenge and place a bet on it. The one where Son In Law had 30 seconds to pick a ping pong ball up from the floor without using his hands, feet or forearms was the one that finished me. He was writhing around the floor trying to hook it under his chin.

We do tend to play a lot of stuff though when kids and partners come around. Jackbox on the TV is always a favourite, but in terms of actual board games this year we have played: Beat That, Secret Hitler, New Phone Who Dis? And Over Rated.

I have never understood card games. I can play the one where you have to get 21 but what would be the point? The DC love a game of Poker. DH talks about playing 'Newmarket' whatever that was. Yawn. I CBA to learn any of the rules and it all looks a bit boring
