Any fans of rock music of the Led Zep era please help - DP's funeral

DP died suddenly last Monday. It's awful. He loved rock music of the late 60s/70s but he never had a favourite, he just loved the genre. What John Peel called 'the music of your life' - what you were into in your teens that stays with you. I'd like to have a piece that represents that at the funeral but I don't know where to start, my head's all over the place.

Please can you suggest a classic, iconic piece that I can play for him? It doesn't have to be Led Zep, that was just to indicate the era. And not too long, it would be difficult for the mourners to just sit and listen.

Thank you.

Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a great suggestion by PP. It is one of the absolute classics of the era and the lyrics feel right for the occasion too.
The lyrics are about a man explaining to a woman why he can't settle down and make a commitment. Not sure that's entirely appropriate.

It was mentioned but All of My Love is one of my favourite LZ songs. It was written for Robert Plant's little boy Karac when he died.

Comin' Back to Me by Jefferson Airplane... gorgeous song.

I'm so incredibly sad and sorry for your loss, OP.

I planned my father's funeral after died rather suddenly earlier this year, similar era and music likes. In the early days we felt helpless so threw ourselves into planning the music for his funeral. We settled on Songbird by Fleetwood Mac, the into to Stairway to Heaven as his coffin entered (they faded it out), Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward (this absolutely summed up how we were feeling), and Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues. Many people commented on how perfect the music was, and we felt we couldn't have chosen any better - summed him up perfectly.

So sorry for your loss x

@KimikosNightmare - I didn't realise that. I looked at them, and thought the 'I must be travelling on now for this bird you cannot change' could refer to moving from life to death/afterlife.

Thank You is a great suggestion - also The Rain Song, which has a beautiful melody and thoughtful lyrics about the seasons of life.

I wanted to come back to this thread to say thank you to everyone who contributed. The funeral was on Friday, and it was perfect. After much listening, and reading lyrics, I chose Wish you were here by Pink Floyd as the music for the coffin to enter the crematorium, and then Thank you by Led Zep to play as a moment of celebration. Normally you have to have the whole piece or none, the music isn't edited. But Wish you were here turned out to be one of the funeral director's favourite pieces ever, so he edited it in his own time to cut out the long instrumental introduction and start it just a few seconds before the vocals come in. It was magical, even on such a sad day.

Thank you again to everyone. When I posted I just didn't have a clue where to start, and you all made it special.
