Metronidazole doesn't seem to be working?

Evening all, Merry Christmas! I have been on metronidazole for a tooth abscess for 4 full days of a 7 day course now, pain has subsided but only slightly. Should I have noticed a massive improvement by now? The whole right hand side of my mouth is still swollen and I'm so fed up! Has anyone had any experience? Can it sometimes not work? Is maybe working but just slowly? Might I need different antibiotics? I will phone NHS 111 in the morning if I'm still in pain but just wanted some reassurance tonight. Thanks all ☺

Are you salt rinsing too? Mine took two courses to reduce the abcess then an extraction then more antibiotics to clear it

I have, oh crikey 🙈 were you on the same one? I'm taking ibuprofen to try and reduce swelling as well. Hoping tomorrow I wake up miraculously better!

Yes same one just an incredibly long standing infection it cost me three teeth sadly as it wiped out my roots

I took this for a tooth abscess last month. First course was 250 mg which reduced it a bit but had to have second course at 400mg. Tooth can’t be saved and is coming out next week - temporary filling holding abscess off until then.

This was me last Christmas. I had to have a second course. Which turned my tongue black, very annoying on top of its making me queasy.

And I lost the tooth.

Oh gosh, thanks all and sorry you have all been through the same! Already on 400mg and have a bought of oral thrush alongside it 🤢 Merry bloody Christmas! Not terribly bad this morning but still sore. Day 7 of this!!
