I just googled this to see if its a typo & there is a news article from 2018 saying people were baffled by the joke, and then goes on to say the jokes has been circulating for at least 3 years - you'd think sainsbury would have corrected it by now?!

noblegiraffe · 25/12/2021 17:03

It’s famous! It’s supposed to be coffin medicine. I think there’s some typographical reason the two ffs disappeared.

fallfallfall · 25/12/2021 17:04

Yup COFFIN medicine, stuff like this happens when outsourced to locations where English isn’t their first language.

anotherchocolate · 25/12/2021 18:23

The random typo version made me laugh more than the original Grin

NumaNumaYay · 25/12/2021 18:27

It still doesn't work as a joke though, with the lead-in saying "cough medicine", because I wouldn't class "coffin medicine" as a type of "cough medicine".

Maybe if you said "what kind of medicine does Dracula take when he has a tickly throat" (or Covid, would work quite well perhaps?) ?

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 25/12/2021 18:30

There was a thread about this exact joke on Christmas Day a few years ago.

DuckWithOneWing · 25/12/2021 18:57

You usually have c-off medicine, but instead he has c-on medicine.

I'm not sure why it mentions Dracula, but it makes sense to me.

FelicityBeedle · 25/12/2021 19:08

Yep should be coffin. I read something that it’s something to do with ff being something in a printer’s code and an error reads it in the text of the joke and removes it. We didn’t get one with it this year, quite sad

FelicityBeedle · 25/12/2021 19:09

Oh I found it! Completely not what I said
