Chocolate Spread Jars

I was getting some glasses and stuff out for the table for tomorrow when I realised that almost all, if not every single one of our glass tumblers are simply emptied, washed and repurposed chocolate spread jars! They just seem too nice to throw out! Are we the only ones?

Same.

DappledThings · 25/12/2021 01:35

Same. They are such a good size.

immersivereader · 25/12/2021 01:39

Us too. Nice quality glass

Monkeytennis97 · 25/12/2021 02:01

Yup. Us, too.

Amammai · 25/12/2021 02:13

Nice as a wine glass too if you are prone to chipping long stemmed glasses on the tap etc 🙈

JudgingYourFridge · 25/12/2021 02:45

Same!

Redshoeblueshoe · 25/12/2021 02:58

Why would people throw them away ?

Fl0w3ry · 25/12/2021 03:01

Yeah, got quite a few!

SinoohXaenaHide · 25/12/2021 03:05

They are specifically designed to be used this way. When you buy apot of chocolate spread you are actually buying a tumbler which is is full of spread. Cheaper non-reusable jars are sold too at a significantly lower price-per-100g but I would rather buy it by the tumblerfull and reduce our household waste.

I seem to do this with lots of cups, bowls, plates, glasses... it's a wonder we still have any left!

I forgot I'd started this: I was a little bit tipsy 😂

I have all sorts of cartoon ones from my student days, (Astérix etc) I use them as juice glasses!

GTAlogic · 25/12/2021 10:50

Oh I remember the novelty ones. We had a load of coke and fanta ones that came with the drinks.

In France, Dijon mustard was often sold in jars that were clearly intended to double as glasses. I had one with a handle on. The glasses that some candles come in are reusable too, probably heatproof to a degree.

GTAlogic · 25/12/2021 12:34

I put some orange fairy lights in the empty candle jars. I daren't use them for food/drink because I can't get rid of the smell so there'll still be some candle residue left over. We do use some of the empty coffee jars (those huge Dowe Egbert's ones) for storing coffee bags and fresh ground coffee though.

And that chocolate spread doesn't contain palm oil so win win!!!

JovialNickname · 25/12/2021 19:59

Same. I buy them as posh glasses and take on the "inconvenience" of eating the contents first

GTAlogic · 25/12/2021 22:43

I buy Gü chocolate spread specifically because it doesn't have the palm oil. Speaking of Gü, we have a cupboard full of their ramekins as well!
OP posts:
friedeggandsauce · 25/12/2021 22:48

@GTAlogic that's how it started and then finding the bonus of the tumblers makes the expense even more worthwhile.

We also have a load of their ramekins too, very handy for so many things! Lidl do some knock off versions which are nice too

GTAlogic · 25/12/2021 22:57

Yes, we store loose change in them, bobbles, used tea bags, paper clips etc. They're really good for mixing the oil and honey or whatever for salad dressings too. And of course for making your own soufflés in, cheese or chocolate ones!

I had a dessert panic yesterday as I had no little tiny dishes and then remembered my stash of Gu ramekins which came to the rescue. Apparently a pringles tube lid fits nicely on the top!

Hotyogahotchoc · 25/12/2021 23:02

The Nutella ones? I usually keep them but it hadn't occurred to me to use them as a glass to drink out of

I definitely keep the Gu ones

Tyredofallthis1 · 25/12/2021 23:15

All of the main glasses in use today are Nutella jars. When I have broken some or used them for paint and then thrown, I buy more nutella.

GTAlogic · 26/12/2021 00:25

We have one Nutella one, it has a rounded bottom. The rest are Gü because I prefer their chocolate spread. We started to keep them because we had no tumblers and now we have 11! Yay for the ramekins to the rescue!
