For those who don't get any presents at Christmas

Do you choose anything for yourself? Santa usually brings me something nice. This year he found a 1970s manual typewriter which reminds me of the one that was at home as a child. In true 1970s style I'll be typing on the back of any letters that are lying around 😂

That sounds lovely!
I’m a curmudgeonly fucker at Xmas (when alone, I don’t bring others down) and I don’t want anything - from anyone including Santa.
But I do tend to treat myself year round 😉

I put a mini pink gin selection in the Asda shop and some tonic. It's now put to one side ready to be my gift to myself. Not as impressive as your present but I'm looking forward to it 😁

APineForestInWinter · 23/12/2021 22:37

Quite right about treating yourself year-round. I feel that since I rarely want much at all, if I do have a hankering for something then I should go with it.

This is exactly the behaviour that I'm talking about. 10/10 😂

I bought myself a box of my favourite marzipan chocolate from our local patisserie.

I also spent a fortune on various children in the family, but no one in the family buys for adults.

Will be alone most of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so will cuddle up with a log fire, my book, a film or two and a bottle of bubbles.

NinaDefoe · 23/12/2021 23:03

Another ‘treat yourself all year round’ person here.
I only get one present at Christmas - from my lovely Mum. DC and DH have never bothered because I tell them I don’t want anything.
This is true - if I want something I buy it for myself!

NinaDefoe · 23/12/2021 23:08

Things I have bought for myself this Christmas... A large box of chocolates
(I might share - haven’t decided yet), A gorgeous coat, a bouquet of ‘winter’ flowers and some Chanel no.5.
I’m very happy with the things I have bought myself 😂🎄

NinaDefoe · 23/12/2021 23:11

Just to add, the reason I say I don’t want/need anything is that I don’t want my DC spending their holiday minimum wage on me.

SmellyOldPartridgeinaPearTree · 23/12/2021 23:12

The dinner is treat enough for me tbh Xmas Grin

ImSoMagical · 23/12/2021 23:13

Hubby and I don't do gifts (4 kids, partners, grandchildren etc etc) but he has surprised me with a gift (shown me) that I like but don't love and can't understand why he has decided to change what we have agreed. I've got him zilch as usual and he's fine with that 😁

SequinnedShawl · 23/12/2021 23:13

I bought a jigsaw for me. I've one present from my daughter. She's sent wine and flowers but the present she chose and it's not a plus+.

Netaporter · 23/12/2021 23:15

I order a box of fancy rose and violet creams. No other fucker touches them so I’m guaranteed to have them to myself. I add a bottle of fizz to make it nutritionally balanced 😂

crackofdoom · 23/12/2021 23:19

I did buy myself "Journal of the Plague Year" by Cold War Steve in Waterstone's the other day- it's suitably luxurious and coffee-tabley to be a present.

(but the kids ARE giving me a mushroom growing kit that I had to pay for online and half pay for myself, so technically I will be getting a present from someone Grin).

Strokethefurrywall · 23/12/2021 23:22

I buy myself what I want year round and there’s honestly nothing I want or need. Last year I ordered myself some stunning Badgely Mischka Cher pumps in electric blue, this year I just told DH to get me some champagne.

I bought myself a piano in November which was apparently going to be my Christmas gift. I don’t care about opening things for me on Christmas honestly, but love watching DH and the kids opening theirs. It’s not virtuous at all and come my birthday I definitely always have something exciting to open, but Christmas I’d prefer to watch others.

Strokethefurrywall · 23/12/2021 23:23

Tell a lie. I bought some Brilliant Gin in raspberry with a load of aromatic fever tree tonic so I’ve been ploughing through that since Monday!

@Netaporter I like the way you think! Very nutritious.

I do the same with strawberry and orange cremes. DH has started saying he "might like the strawberry ones after all". I think not!

Sugaris · 23/12/2021 23:29

I bought myself a new notebook and a set of samples from Miller Harris.

I’m so thoughtful, when it comes to presents for me, I know exactly what I like Grin

Agadorsparticus · 23/12/2021 23:34

I always buy myself gifts on Xmas. I've had in th past too many disappointing years and now I love myself enough to get exactly what I want.
I'd rather buy myself something I love than DH pick me something I don't want or won't use, what a waste.

Come Christmas day and the huge quantity of threads every year on here of saddened wives who've done the majority of the mental and physical load at this time of year and have been looking forward to being spoilt or getting something special from their loved one. Not to mention the single parents/ people who also deserved to be spoiled.
Spoil yourself IMO. 🎁🥰💐
