Evening all,
After our Xmas plans has been cancelled twice we have decided to chase snow from the 24-28 December.
We’re in our campervan and are really flexible. We were thinking of wales? Any other ideas of where we can get snow? We are coming from London.
Thanks

I recommend consulting netweather. But also, it's going mild, mountains may be your best bet.

InTheLabyrinth · 23/12/2021 19:12

I think I'd go further north.
Northumberland or Scotland, on the high ground?

ChristmasParty · 23/12/2021 19:24

Thanks both. @InTheLabyrinth I think Scotland might be a bit far. We have a vintage camper and it only goes 50mph tops! @BadgeronaMoped I really struggle to understand netweather. But if I understand it right it looks like we’ll need to go very north for snow!
Oh well, hopefully things will get colder after Christmas

You simply need to head high. The MWIS will tell you where freezing point is (it's above the summits in Wales tomorrow).

If you aren't skilled winter walkers you can still see the snowy peaks from the warmth of a cosy pub.

Sounds lovely

If Scotland is too far really Brecon or Snowdonia would be the best bet as far as I know ( and I do keep an eye on such things but am not a metereologist!)

ChristmasParty · 23/12/2021 19:33

@Yummypumpkin thanks. Very helpful. We’re not winter walkers (or really if I’m honest walkers at all!) and were travelling with a four year old and a very small dog that hates the snow.

So you want to see snow but not be in it I suppose!

Llanberis, Beddgelert could be nice...I'm going tomorrow so shall report back.

Also check out this guy on Twitter who does summit reports daily from Snowdon and is very precise in his descriptions of where snow is falling or lying: @snowdonweather

BadgeronaMoped · 23/12/2021 19:39

I'm still quite disappointed by the mild swing if I'm honest (as are many folk on the netweather forums). And I know it's just weather and we live in the UK where the default is mild and snow causes problems for many... I just love it so much in spite of all that!

Wishing you the best of luck with your snow search! Xmas Smile

ChristmasParty · 23/12/2021 19:47

Basically @Yummypumpkin I want to wake up in the van to snow outside, I want it to be light bright and wonderful. I basically want it all Grin

Please report back and let me know! We’re setting off at 2:30 so I’ll need to decide on a basic location before then

@BadgeronaMoped I came up with this insane plan (who camps during winter!!!) when snow was much more likely. I’ve told said 4 year old and now she’s obsessed. It’s a rookie mistake.

Fingers crossed that the weather will be a bit colder

Thanks all!

@Yummypumpkin all ski gear is packed so we can totally handle snow

Be careful you don't get stuck as campers aren't the best for driving on icy roads and snow.

Yummypumpkin · 23/12/2021 20:14

You really ought to have a Channel 4 film crew in tow...Will post a pic from Snowdonia tomorrow and do keep us posted!

Haywire · 23/12/2021 20:14

There is no snow on The Brecon Beacons/Black mountains right now unfortunately and none forecast for the next week; Snowdonia might be a better bet as bit higher. Scotland looks more likely though.

ChristmasParty · 23/12/2021 20:41

Thanks all! It all started as just a little fun due to the fact that our Christmas plans have been cancelled twice and DD was disappointed. I’ll keep everyone posted (hopefully with a pic of DD in the snow).

Update: we’ve decided to head to Snowdonia. Thinking we’ll stay on the boarder to wales tonight and get to Snowdonia tomorrow! Wish us luck

Love this!

Yummypumpkin · 24/12/2021 17:16

Good luck! Snow right on the tops today and set to fall at height from tomorrow afternoon through the night and ceasing before dawn....get as high as you can I guess...

Sprig1 · 24/12/2021 17:18

I hope you find your snow. Have a good day and be careful if you need to go upmarket mountain.

LoveFall · 24/12/2021 17:54

Too bad we're across the pond, because it is snowy in Vancouver this morning.

First time on Christmas Eve in a long time.🤶🙂

ChristmasParty · 24/12/2021 18:01

Thanks all! @Yummypumpkin we’ve found a pub who’ll let you stay in their car park overnight about an hour away. We’ve got smoke salmon bagels for breakfast and then we’ll head over. Fingers crossed we find snow and a nice park up tomorrow night!

gingercat02 · 24/12/2021 18:08

I'm in Aberdeenshire OP no snow forecast up here 😭

ChristmasParty · 25/12/2021 12:19

Update: the heater broke after 5min yesterday. Almost at Snowdonia!
At the moment we’re actually thankful for the warmer weather
