How to distribute household tasks/mental load?

I feel like this post may resonate with many of you MNers so I'm turning for you for help.

I work 2 days and my husband is full time. 2 small children who are in childcare when we're both at work.

I'm really struggle to find a balance with the household tasks and general mental load of being a parent/adult.

How do you people fairly distribute things? I don't work full time so I naturally take on more but I feel like my husband doesn't really do much around the house or any of the general thinking!! He does a fair share of childcare.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Its a tricky balance. I’m a SAHM so it’s different for us but I hate the mental load.

There are a few things I do to make it easier but the biggest is for DH and I to have a weekly meeting to talk about what’s coming up and who will do what. We share lists through notes and write next to the list our initials. We have a master list called calendars which has absolutely every annual thing we need to do from think about booking a holiday, MOT, start planning for Christmas, check winter coats etc, world book day competition. We check this list every week too.

But I still fucking hate the mental load.

Wow that's very organised @Fallagain

Really good idea to talk it through at the beginning of the week. Do you do the bulk of the chores etc?

Use the organised Mum method. You can apparently get an app which removes you as the coordinator because its all there where you both can see it. I havent got this far yet. I do like to talk through the week ahead on Sunday evening.

We have a cleaner again now. We didn’t for a long time. I tend to do the majority of other stuff but DH has dedicated jobs and will happily be directed to do stuff.

The list is always going to be a work in progress but it makes life much easier as I’m not one of those people who remember dates.

Oh and a robot hoover (efuy c30) has made a huge difference.
