McCain home fries

EvilPea · 23/12/2021 14:06

Aldi skin on

Amazing. Piss on all the others.
Second best Sainsburys skin on

Best onion rings. Sainsburys “taste the difference” beer battered. Better than any restaurant I’ve had.

Aunt Bessie crinkle cut.

Ooh - great question!!

I always use McCain home fries, and:

Put them on for 25 mins around 160 degrees

Then mash them up a bit, drizzle with oil and salt, then whack the heat up for 20 mins or so.

Keep repeating until as crispy as needed - yum!!

bendmeoverbackwards · 23/12/2021 15:09

I don’t normally add oil, maybe that’s the secret??

Make them yourself if you have time. Maris piper potatoes, peeled, sliced, and parboiled for 5 minutes. Leave to cool and shake them to rough them up. Cover in oil and salt, 35 minutes at 210 degrees. Amazing. Far better than bag ones.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/12/2021 16:49

McCain Home Fries are good, haven't really tried many of the others to comment, but whichever you choose, cook them for at least 10 minutes longer than it says, and shake them up a couple of times so that they cook evenly.

Lidl skin on fries done in an air fryer. Lush!

WeAllHaveWings · 23/12/2021 17:18

Mccain gastro chips are crispy, but be careful with your tray as there is A LOT of oil on them and it can pour off the edges if your tray has just a small lip.

Gatekeeper · 23/12/2021 17:20

Lidl skin on fries. Just as nice as McCain version at a third of the price

Lou98 · 23/12/2021 17:24

Do you have an air fryer? I find them great for crispy chips, I just spray with some fry light.

I love these chips from Iceland, best oven chips I've had in a while!

Lidl skin on or any french fries.

Oblomov21 · 23/12/2021 17:33

McCain triple booked gastro chips, once I've poured away a bit of it. Lovely.

7eleven · 23/12/2021 17:34

Albert Rooster are nice

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/12/2021 17:35

Aldi skin on. Cooked in an air fryer

roses2 · 23/12/2021 17:35

I also love Aldi skin on. Whichever you buy I've found a chip oven tray with hols in is far far better in yielding a crispy chip than a tray without holes

ElfCalavicci · 23/12/2021 17:50

I find most oven chips cook much better if once part cooked you transfer them onto a wire cooling rack and the oven turned up a notch .it works for home made chips too

Now if anyone can tell me about a bag of chips that isn't a half full of tiny bits that end up just getting chucked away . . . . . .

My children love these but i dont think they are veggie
CommanderBurnham · 23/12/2021 17:55

McCain French fries. Sprinkle with salt before bunging in the airfryer.

user290814356289 · 23/12/2021 17:55

Farm foods home style chips.
One of asdas ones were good. It wasn't asda branded, I can't remember but they were £1.20 for a huge bag.

I love chips and these 2 ive mentioned are the best by far.

Buy an actifry. Chips are rubbish in the oven.

breatheinskipthegym · 23/12/2021 17:56

My top oven chips tip is cook them on a pizza tray - the ones with the holes at the bottom. Might even need a minute or so less than the packet says, but come out crispy and evenly cooked.

I stick with McCains Home Chips too.

PriamFarrl · 23/12/2021 18:55

McCain’s home fries all day long.

Longdistance · 23/12/2021 19:01

I had some Aldi home style chips last week. They were very nice. Not sure if veggie though.

Nat6999 · 23/12/2021 19:09

Morrisons own brand, spray with either olive oil or sunflower oil sprays & sprinkle Sea salt on them & put in the oven on 240 until cooked to the colour you like.

RedHot22 · 23/12/2021 19:11

McCain Gastro are not vegetarian
