My turkey is not defrosting!

Following guidelines I took my turkey crown out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost. That was 48 hours ago. It has barely changed! I need it defrosted by tomorrow as that is when I am cooking it ( I know, discussion for another thread). If it hasn't defrosted much in 48 hours, I can't see much changing in another 24.

Can I get it out of the fridge for a few hours to give it a bit of a push or will we all be spending boxing day being ill?

Leave in wrapping or wrap. Out of the fridge into a bowl or bucket of cold tap water depending on size. This works for almost anything frozen. Always cold water.

Yes this. Change the water after a couple of hours to keep it cold not icy if it's a big turkey

Leave it on the kitchen bench from now.

I always find the advice to defrost meat in the fridge really odd, my fridge never defrosts meat. Maybe around the edges a bit but it always remains icy in the centre.

Yes, bucket of cold water is good plan. Or on the side is absolutely fine too

Thank you! I am reassured. I've never had a frozen turkey before but I bought it from a butchers a couple of months ago when there were all the supply issues.

Always defrosts quicker in cold water rather than on the side.

Agree, soak in cold water and repeat as the water becomes chilly. I often do this with frozen sausages or chops.

I've never defrosted mine in the fridge before. I tried it this year after reading about it on here. Anyway 24 hours in the fridge and it was still frozen solid so it came out of the fridge and on to the sideboard yesterday morning. It was defrosted enough to dry brine it by tea time yesterday and now it's back in the fridge.

Chickens and turkeys never defrost in my fridge properly. I've tried it several times. I just put them on the bench for a couple of hours checking that they are staying cold.
