Sertraline side effects, anyone had them and did they subside?

Nauseous and upset tummy.
Indigestion most days.
Headaches.
Dry mouth.
Loss of appetite.
Dreams worthy of a horror movie (not every night though)

I've been taking it for about a month, went up to 100mg about 14 days ago. And the plan is an increase to 150mg after Christmas.
Honestly if I feel like this on Christmas day I will struggle. I've had citalopram before and it never had this effect.

On the upside - although I'm not wildly happy, I'm not distraught any more so that's good Confused

They didn't for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Had headaches, loss of appetite and vivid (mostly scary) dreams throughout. For most people they do go away though so it's worth sticking with it

FWIW in on Prozac now and not getting any of those side effects anymore

My DD is on 200mg of Sertraline and apart from "very weird dreams" seems not to have any further side effects, they tailed off after a while.

Nausea and upset tummy for about a week yes, the rest no, might be wise to check in with your GP?

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Did get side effects but a month seems a long time. I'd speak to GP , it might not be the pill for you.

mindutopia · 22/12/2021 16:01

Yes, they lasted a few weeks probably, maybe up to a month. The worst of it was maybe the first 4-5 days though (I literally couldn't get out of bed I was so exhausted). I did continue to have muscle twitches for a few months, but now that I think about it I can't think of when I last noticed them, so maybe they are gone.

Is there a reason you are increasing the dose though? I started on 50mg and have stayed on it. I would assume that a lower dose to see if they start to work, which can take a month or two, is the usual approach. It does sound like they are helping, but if a lower dose also works, you would likely have fewer side effects.

Thanks for replying all.
Yes I'm increasing as the major symptom is depression with anxiety but tbh the side effects are making me anxious!
I am going to phone the surgery tomorrow and see if I can go back down to 50mg or change meds.

I remember having symptoms for a good 5 weeks but they gradually subsided. I still get fairly vivid dreams and night sweats.... although the latter could be my age.

I honestly felt just awful for a good 3 to 4 weeks when I started but I had been feeling so depressed before starting the meds that I figured it couldn't get much worse. I think most of the symptoms died down around 6 weeks in. I'm on 150mg and have been on that dose for 6 years. It has improved my life so substantially for the better.

You could stick with it for a few more weeks but definitely call your surgery in case they have something that might be a better fit for you.
