Sherry trifle and kids

I have made a last minute decision to make a sherry trifle for Christmas day. Can my kids eat it??

I used to love my Mum's sherry trifle as a kid (I wonder why??).

Also, how much sherry should I use?

I don't think it can do them any harm as long as they don't have the whole lot!

My nan would always make two, a big one with sherry and a small one without for any kids (like myself) who didn't want/like it.

We always ate my mum's Sherry trifle as kids and mine have always eaten it with no ill effects 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh boy, might be best to don a flame retardant suit now. I’ve seen some crazy answers in threads about children eating things with alcohol in them!
Honestly, it’s entirely up to you. They’ll be fine!

Definitely not because trifle Envy

I used to love sherry trifle as a kid and my children like it now, and have done since they were small. As for how much sherry to use - well, I don't really measure it out - enough to soak the sponges. Maybe 2-3 tablespoons (probably closer to 3).

Funnily enough, I don't especially like sherry as a drink.

I used to love Sherry trifle as a child with a good slug of Sherry 🤣🤣🤣🤣

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 22/12/2021 11:36

It was the treat we looked forward to most as kids haha

HoppingPavlova · 22/12/2021 11:37

I use a shitload of sherry and was happy to give it to mine when they were kids. They loved it. They still love it as adults even though none of them drink alcohol (personal choice). It’s a once a year thing and a tradition. I just can’t get up in arms about kids and sherry in a trifle.

My auntie made the best one, always a good slug of Sherry in it. She also used to make us a snowball from advocaat. We all survived.

Okay, you've convinced me. I was going to make a separate sherry free one but I cba and I'd need to get more jelly and sponges.

I doubt they'll like it anyway! All the more for me Xmas Grin
