Ring doorbell for elderly Mum - which to get? Advice welcome please

My Mum is in her 70’s and has just been the victim of a horrible scam which involved people impersonating the police via the telephone and in person. It has been a very distressing experience and I’m now very worried about her being alone🙁

My siblings & I want to get her a ring doorbell for Christmas so that she can see who is at the door before answering.

I’ve looked online at the ring doorbells and am a bit confused by all the options. She won’t want anything too complicated.

Please could anyone help me out with what I need & how it all works? I’m not great at all this tech and my head is all over the place right now after what’s happened to my mum but I need to get on and buy something today preferably.

We have a ring door bell. You need internet and we pay £3.50 a month. But we all have the app on our phones so can see and interact with whoever is at the door.

Thank you @Equallyconfusing - is it battery operated or wired in? Do you know if the video footage is saved or does it delete after a certain time?

Ours have a rechargeable battery but doesn't need charging often. Our lets us know if motion is active outside the door, so 2 of the cats keep walking past sensor to be let in. If door bell is pressed it records not sure if it does if just activated. We also have sensor lights that come on if someone comes into garden (not activated by cats-thankfully) and another camera at side of house but that just records 24/7. Weve never had any trouble here but have a big dog that looks the part so that probably helps. Dog is actually more of a whimp than cats but he looks the part.

Is your DM ok with using a smartphone Little?

That's good then. Not sure my older relatives could cope with one.

Make sure you download the app too so you're able to see at a glance who's on your mum's doorstep

We don't bother with a Ring. We have eufy cameras on the front door, garage doors and back garden. Very basic installation - easier than Ring - and very good. Again, all download the app so you can all see who's there
