Anyone got an Apple Watch? Help please…

So I inherited one (taken out the box, used for a week, put back in box, left for a couple of years…).

Anyhoo - the battery is draining so quickly! I’m sure it’s because I must be running a million things but I’m not sure what I need and what is just a drain. I charged it this time yesterday and it’s down to 60% already!

Anyone got an ‘idiots guide’ to these things ?

To be honest the battery does drain quickly mine was fully charged at 2300 and it's down to 69% after a nightshift.

To check what's open press the button under the wheel in the side of the watch face and it will show what apps are open

I charge mine every night, my current one (fourth generation) would probably last for two days, but my previous one (first generation) definitely wouldn't. So I just pop it on the charger when I go to bed.

I thought my old Fitbit was bad (5 day battery). What’s the point of having all these whizzy things if you have to charge the battery every 2 days (so I assume the battery life is shorter too!)

If you charged it 24 hours ago and you’ve still got 60% on it that bloody brilliant. Mines a brand new one and I’d never expect it to last that long.

Exactly this, it is designed to be charged daily.
yoshiblue · 22/12/2021 09:19

I charge mine at night on its own stand, no inconvenience at all. You just have to create a new habit.

santaclothes · 22/12/2021 09:20

The battery life on them is awful. I used to charge mine every night when I was watching TV but o got quite bored of it so never wear it now!

TrashyPanda · 22/12/2021 09:21

Another one who charges it every night.
It’s been 4 years, but I kind of remember the instructions telling you to do that
It isn’t a hassle. You just have the charging dock next to your bed.

Shamoo · 22/12/2021 09:24

As others say, you charge it at night like you would a phone!

10littlepirates · 22/12/2021 09:24

I think turning off wake on wrist raise helps with the battery possibly? Under settings and display and brightness.

10littlepirates · 22/12/2021 09:24

I do charge mine every night though - I like it as an alarm clock / for checking the time in the night.

winesolveseverything · 22/12/2021 09:25

I think it depends what you are using it for. Mine is 2 years old.
If I have a day of literally just using it to tell the time and look at the odd text message, the battery might drop to 75% after 24 hours.
A day where I've used it for swimming (so it's counting lengths, buzzing when I've done a certain distance etc) using it to reply to messages, using navigation so it buzzes every time I need to turn left or right.... then the battery drains a lot quicker.
It's not really a problem- the charger is by my bed and it goes on each night. It charges up pretty fast.

I think they are just 'busy' watches really!! My husband has a very cheap version of a fit bit and he can go a few days without charging- but then his only tells the time and counts steps!!

Direwolfwrangler · 22/12/2021 09:26

I have one and when I first got it the battery drained really quickly. I found this article and worked through the tips. Mine lasts a full day now.

Isn’t it supposed to track your sleep though? I did enjoy arguing with my Fitbit every morning (well I know for a fact I was awake until 1am then woke up at 3am!!)

I wear mine during the night but then put it on the charger every morning when I get up so it charges while I’m getting ready.

Yes, I charge mine for around 30 mins every morning while I get showered and dressed. They only last one day but charge quickly.

Using the GPS, so maps or tracking walks / runs etc does drain the battery.

You need 30% battery at bed time to track sleep.

RustyBear · 22/12/2021 09:32

Which version do you have? Only v3 or later tracks sleep.

Looneytune253 · 22/12/2021 09:35

I think that's quite normal for apple watch I'm afraid. I had a Fitbit and charged once a week but I'm new to apple and it needs charged at least once a day (usually when I'm in the bath) but prob wouldn't last longer than a day or two if I left it

KittenKong · 22/12/2021 09:39

It’s a series 3
