We’re hosting my OH’s family for the first time. Normally we would just have chocolate and left overs! Grin

Any ideas?

by boxing day I'm craving salad, a big mixed winter vegetable colelaw with an oil and vinegar based dressing - not mayo.

with baked potatoes.

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2021 11:27

Last year I had buttered spinach with my ham 😋

Takeitonthechin · 22/12/2021 11:32

Oooo a nice cauliflower, broccoli cheese, roast potatoes, buttered carrots. You could have a honey mustard sauce to go with it if you need it.
It's making me hungry just thinking about it.

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2021 11:36

I had my boxing day ham on Sunday we are having family boxing day who don't like itXmas Sad

Macaroni cheese. Or cheesy mash. Or cauliflower cheese.

Essentially, cheese is compulsory.

AdaColeman · 22/12/2021 11:38

If you're serving it hot, colcannon and parsley sauce, or cauliflower cheese.

Ooh or homemade winter coleslaw type salad, boiled new potatoes, pickles, beetroot, leftover PIB, stuffing and bread sauce

froomeonthebroom · 22/12/2021 11:50

You must have: cold gammon, hot baked potatoes with loads of butter, salad, pickles. Boxing day law in our family!

mindutopia · 22/12/2021 12:33

I'm making a treacle glazed gammon for Boxing Day, we're having that with cold things like gherkins, pickled eggs, pickled onions, cheese/biscuits/chutney, and leftovers from Christmas.

pamplemoussed · 22/12/2021 12:39

Nigella's yummy christmas mac and cheese ( with condensed milk) and a crisp green salad.

Fifthtimelucky · 22/12/2021 12:41

I shall be having mine with baked potatoes, parsley sauce, broccoli and sugar snap peas.

mrsnw · 22/12/2021 12:46

We are having gammon with my in laws Boxing Day. We will serve with mash and pickles. No doubt other various leftovers will reappear aka cheeseboard 😋

NoddingTulip · 22/12/2021 12:57

We have it with bubble and squeak(using left over pots and veg from Christmas dinner) leeks in cheese sauce and have a bowl of salad in middle of table for those who want it.

Magnited · 22/12/2021 13:00

Shove an apple in its mouth and just pass round the gin?

Inextremis · 22/12/2021 13:12

We always have the gammon (or ham), with cold turkey, hot mashed potato, reheated stuffing, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, cranberry sauce, and pickled walnuts. Also spiced red cabbage (hot|).

Trifle for pud.

Cheese. Lots of cheese.

RomeoMcFlourish · 22/12/2021 13:14

We always have gammon with jacket potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and mountains of cheddar cheese on Boxing Day. Something my husband always had as a child apparently and we’ve carried it on.
