How do I sleep?!

Currently tossing and turning (between toilet trips) due to cystitis-related discomfort (pelvic pain etc). I've taken pain killers and have a hot water bottle but it just feels so awful.
How can I make myself comfortable enough to sleep? I'm also expecting DS to wake up any minute for a feed as well. Oh the joys Sad

Controlled breathing, like for childbirth? It's helped me through some random discomforts.

FairyWings4 · 22/12/2021 00:15

I shall try this! Thank you.

Find a relaxing piece of music/ background sound on YouTube.
If you use Spotify on your phone, search Michael Sealey. I always listen to him when my anxiety is bad and I can’t sleep. (Might be on other places too if you don’t have Spotify!)

It's no good for you now but as a fellow UTI sufferer I swear by cranberry capsules or dissolvables.
I have them in the medicine cupboard and feel relief within 10 minutes every time.
Invest in some for future reference but for the time being I feel for you. The best you can do is keep drinking plenty of water and flushing yourself through, vitamin C helps too a lot!

FairyWings4 · 22/12/2021 00:32

I should dig my headphones out, that's a good idea. I'm finding it hard to switch off from the discomfort.

@MamaJustKilledAMan what dissolvables do you use? I thought it was getting better but it seems to hit harder at night. Sorry to hear you suffer too Sad

Just cheap ones from boots they're about 90p or so nothing flash but I definitely feel relief a lot quicker than anything over the counter or antibiotics.
It's the most frustrating and uncomfortable pain ever.
A bath really does help too, weeing whilst pouring warm water over your bits, no knickers or anything you need air getting down there. And please wee whenever you need. Holding it makes it so much worse!
And GALLONS of water flushes the bacteria out. Hot water bottle on your back/inside your thighs may feel more relief than on your bladder too! I'm seasoned by now at this and it's one of the worst ailments a woman can have. It's annoying, painful and uncomfortable. I hope you feel better soon Thanks

If you're prone to it then get some d mannose, Amazon have it

Alayalaya · 22/12/2021 00:46

You need a painkiller called Azo that you can get from Amazon. It numbs your bladder and turns your wee orange, you aren’t supposed to use it for more than a couple of days but it’s great to stop the pain until your antibiotics kick in.

OooohAhhhh · 22/12/2021 00:46

Cystitis is awful, so I feel your pain. I remember when I had it so bad one time, I had to fill the bath up to pee in it, it got rid of the horrible burning/peeing razor blades feeling at least.
Have you tried the sachets? Altho I've found them useless really.
I got a bit of comfort from sleeping with a pillow between my legs.

FairyWings4 · 23/12/2021 00:19

Here we go again, sachets have helped a bit during the day but still struggling to sleep. It's been 2-3 days now and it's not clearing. Time for antibiotics?

Sleep upside down. So where your feet usually are.. put your pillows and your head. Put a pillow between your knees and lie on your side. Breathe in through nose and out through mouth.. make sure your out breath is 2 counts longer than your in breath.
