Where to find out about casting film / TV roles for children?

DD loves acting, and has asked how she can be in films / on TV.

I'm not harbouring dreams of her being the next child star or anything, nor do I expect her to make money out of it - but I said I'd look into it and see what I could find out. I think if she's up for giving it a go, it could be a good experience for her.

I imagine it's horribly competitive! And I know not to sign up with any of those websites that charge you for photos etc. But how do you find out about genuine opportunities?

Also any tips / advice much appreciated!

Is she part of a performing arts group/go to drama classes?

If so then they will be able to point you in the right direction.

If not that's probably a good place to start

You need an agency really and you need a spotlight profile which you have to pay for. You will have to pay for a portfolio.

How do to find an agency?

Are there castings for extras that you can apply for directly or do they go through agents also?

She does go to drama classes but it's s local group, very much for fun, they don't put them forward for TV roles or anything like that as far as I know. I'll ask when they open back up though.

Look up Jessica Ronane and Jo Hawes who are children's casting directors. Some roles are advertised via their websites/newsletters. Jo Hawes used to run courses including audition technique. You don't need an agent necessarily but they may help get your child through to the audition stage early.

If Notapushymum website is still active you will finds ads for upcoming roles and tips from those whose children already perform there.

I'll look them up, thanks :)
