Memory foam mattress for bad back

We've decided we need a new mattress. Going to keep the divan base we have.

I like the idea of having a while to decide whether it's suitable, or can send back and get a full refund.

I've got a bad back and find most beds too hard (I take a roll up memory foam topper to hotels - pre pandemic). I'm average to small weight and so is DH.

Can anyone suggest a good brand/softness level they've bought fairly recently that might suit please?

I don't think I want to go into shops to try them out at the moment.

Thank you.

I like Emma. I don’t like hard beds and my hips hurt (side sleeper) on a mattress that is too firm. I tried a Simba and sent it back but the Emma is great for me (with an extra soft layer that they send to you for free if you request it).

If you decide to try one here is a referral code for £20 off (and I get £20 if you keep it) www.emma-sleep.co.uk/?utm_source=source&utm_medium=frp&utm_code=OMCHS2K53GT0

I made the mistake of buying a Tempur mattress a couple of years ago. Weirdly it felt hard and it boiled me alive. We had to right it off (£1800!) as after 6 months I was in tears putting up with it.

We eventually bought from John Ryan, we have the Artisan Naturals but use it with a thick topper. They have a number of options and allow you to try/send back. The mattresses are of high quality and expect it to last 10-15 years as it is double sided and we rotate it every month.

My son has recently had a IKEA Hovig mattress (medium) and that's super comfortable. If I was on a budget, I'd personally go for that.

Mattresses are a complete minefield :-(

Thank you both. I was wondering about the Emma.

Definitely a minefield and I don't want to make an expensive mistake.
