Would you go to the theatre in London tomorrow

With DH - triple jabbed, recently had Covid. Me - triple jabbed. DS - no jabs. In the cheap seats so will probably be unable to distance. I really want to go as it'll be a great show and DS has been really excited but very nervy about the obvious.

Given there’s a good chance your family visiting plans might be disrupted anyway by new restrictions, I’d probably go. Just because in general with this whole thing I think it’s good to do things when you can as you don’t know when it might change.

valerianroot · 21/12/2021 14:23

Thanks all - still mulling it over.

If 1 in 4 in London have Covid currently, it will be all over by the end of next week Grin

Twilightstarbright · 21/12/2021 14:34

I’d go if you can. We had tickets to two shows and both are cancelled. I love the theatre and it’s a big part of Christmas to me. But I’d be happy spending Christmas with DH and DS and we aren’t spending Christmas with anyone over 60/vulnerable as it stands.

Exactly. Someone likes to scaremonger but isn't great with maths. Wink 1 in 4 in London having Covid means there are 2 million people in London with Covid right now. I'm pretty sure we would have heard if that was the case.
Comefromaway · 21/12/2021 14:37

As of yesterday the total number of covid cases in London SO FAR is 1,544,981

Mostwonderfultime21 · 21/12/2021 14:38

I've just caught covid off my parents and my DS5 now has it. I've passed it to my partner. Loads of my friends have got it. This is the first time so many people I know have it. So personally if you want to see family for Xmas then i wouldn't go. I infected my partner before I even had symptoms

BarkminsterBlue · 21/12/2021 14:39

Maybe if it wouldn't be the end of the world if you had to change your plans for the 28th. You'll be furious if you miss the show and then restrictions are brought in which mean you can't travel anyway.

Otherwise FFP2 masks for all three of you and hope for the best.

valerianroot · 21/12/2021 14:52

I think in the back of my mind I'm assuming all travel plans will be scuppered by restrictions that may or may not happen anyway so we won't end up seeing anyone and we'll miss out on what fun things we do have planned an

aliceca · 21/12/2021 14:55

No as it would mean I could not see my parents on Christmas day if I caught covid.

Youaremypenguin · 21/12/2021 14:59

Probably not but it's an impossible decision to make. If we are restricted after Christmas you will wish you'd gone and risked it. If not you'll hope you've avoided COVID. It's so difficult at the moment.

valerianroot · 21/12/2021 15:02

@Youaremypenguin - it really is. DS has been stuck in his room since he broke up as me and DH are still WFH and none of his friends are about and we're feeling generally, like many, very un-Christmassy. It's a show (actually mentioned above) that he's been really looking forward to. Bah, bloody Covid!!!

TuftyMarmoset · 21/12/2021 15:03

I’m meant to be going to a show on Thursday which I’m deliberating about too OP. Kind of wish they would cancel and make the decision for me!
I think at least if I did pick it up, I would still be incubating on Christmas Day and not yet infectious/coming up positive on a test. Whereas the gap is bigger for you to the 28th, so if you did catch it then you would be isolating by then. But you are also probably right that there will be more restrictions by then anyway!

hivemindneeded · 21/12/2021 15:07

I would go. You could catch Covid nipping out for a pint of milk. People seem to think cancelling all joy will protect them but the virus doesn't care whether you are having fun or not.

Wear masks, use First Defence before and after travel, use antibac when you use the loos or buy drinks or sweets or programmes.

FilterFrog · 21/12/2021 15:27

Thank you!

Bagadverts · 21/12/2021 15:42

Depends on how important the visit is to you. Also whether the people you may visit if did pass on Covid are vulnerable.

If How are you travelling? By car then a short public transport is different than hours in a train.

valerianroot · 21/12/2021 15:45

@Bagadverts - 15 minutes into Central London on train so no tube. Just spoken to DH and now he's got the jitters too ;)

LunaLoveFood · 21/12/2021 15:47

Yes I would and did yesterday. So many people didn't turn up there were empty seats all around us. If it has not been cancelled I would.

Allsorts1 · 21/12/2021 15:48

I know how you feel re: the thought of sacrificing all plans for a holiday that is then cancelled anyway! We have a holiday booked that will require a negative PCR and I wouldn’t go to a theatre show. I would go out to dinner (to Non crowded place) in my bubble though - but anything close quarters with people breathing on us is a no before the holiday. However that is only because I really really really want to go on this holiday. Otherwise it would be a yes. So it’s up to you to balance the likelihood of catching covid and not being able to go away, vs the likelihood of your holiday being cancelled anyway so most as well enjoy the festive season!

MrsDThomas · 21/12/2021 16:17

Of course! If the place is open, use it. I fear pretty soon they’ll be closing again. Sport in Wales is now behind closed doors, yet you can go to the pub to watch the match live on screen.

Unsure how drakeford think that helps. 🤨

But I intend to continue to go out and live life.

valerianroot · 21/12/2021 16:23

@MrsDThomas - yes a part of me thinks the same.

No chance of me going! 1 in 4 Londers have it = sitting for two hours in one room, a quarter of whom have covid? Masks can’t protect you in that situation.

But then I didn’t book winter theatre tickets in the middle if a pandemic either.

There's something very wrong with your Maths. There have only been a total of 1,565,472 cases in London since the start. Population 9m, which makes much less than 1 in 4 altogether.
MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 17:48

Where has the 1 in 4 thing come from?

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 21/12/2021 18:09

About 1 in 40/50 South Londoners currently testing positive for Covid per week. Obviously not everyone with Covid will be picked up by testing so it'll be much more than that but ten times higher seems unlikely.
