Would you go to the theatre in London tomorrow

With DH - triple jabbed, recently had Covid. Me - triple jabbed. DS - no jabs. In the cheap seats so will probably be unable to distance. I really want to go as it'll be a great show and DS has been really excited but very nervy about the obvious.

With a good mask, I'd go. We went to a packed panto a fortnight ago and were the only ones in a mask. The Covid pass checking was a nonsense.

We're due to go to carols at the Royal Albert Hall (postponed from last year) on Christmas Eve and are going but with the higher grade masks. We're triple jabbed and have had covid (it was our Christmas Day surprise last year). Confused

I've got other shows booked for January but am expecting they are likely to be cancelled.

icedcoffees · 21/12/2021 13:37

I would definitely go.

I've just been out shopping and the shops and cafés were as busy as they always are on the run up to Christmas - apart from masks, everything felt very normal and it was really nice to see everyone out and enjoying themselves, not hiding away inside.

DingDongMerrilyOnline · 21/12/2021 13:37

I would. I went to London (via train, 2 hour away from home) to watch the panto at london palladium with DS. We loved it. It was packed but just keep your mask on. I’m triple jabbed, ds not jabbed as too young but to be honest I’m over it all, I’m just going carry on as normal as possible, taking all the precautions I need but I’m not putting my life on hold for a second longer

ThisIsBanana5 · 21/12/2021 13:38

I've got tickets for me and my son to go to a local show this afternoon but I'm not going to go. I would if we weren't due to be seeing family over Christmas.

AtillatheHun · 21/12/2021 13:39

Go, and ignore the preposterous nonsense that some people spout about 1 in 4 people in London having covid right now. Serious, how do people misinterpret data quite so spectacularly?! Even if all the positive tests in the country were in London that wouldn’t be close to being true.

Westfacing · 21/12/2021 13:40

@Lokdok

1 in 4 have covid in London at the moment and there's a good chance it will be cancelled as so many actors will be in isolation. Shows aren't great at the moment because a lot of the actors and crew are isolating. No chance I'd risk it.
Do you have a link for that claim?
FKATondelayo · 21/12/2021 13:44

I would go in your circumstances - unless there's some circumstance you've omitted. In fact we went to see Magic Goes Wrong on Saturday - brilliant evening. 95% of audience masked. Kids loved it. DH and I are both triple jabbed, no vulnerabilities. Never had covid but everyone we know who has - had it mildly.

AtillatheHun · 21/12/2021 13:47

@Westfacing of course not, it’s fantasy numbers of the wild scare mongering. Currently 500k cases across the country. Just shy of 9m in London. Shows still running, shops still open, hospitals still functioning and the majority of hospitalised covid cases were admitted for something different and tested once in - they are hospitalised WITH not from.

Comefromaway · 21/12/2021 13:54

I'd go unless you have vital plans over Christmas that involve you being away from home.

Dd works in a West End Theatre (or rather she usually does but her theatre is closed so she's been redeployed to one just outside central) and my big fear is her testing positive between now and Christmas Eve meaning she will be stuck hundreds of miles away from home at Christmas.

Many of the people who are isolating that she knows are not actually that ill, in normal circumstances they'd probably have 2-3 days off then return but they have to isolate for the full 10 days.

Comefromaway · 21/12/2021 13:57

As of yesterday roughly 50% of West End theatres are closed due to cast/crew sickness

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 21/12/2021 14:00

We went last Tuesday. We are triple vaccinated and have been negative all week.

It looks like quite a few of those who had to close last week may be restarting shows again today.

Alarmset · 21/12/2021 14:00

Anyone who is interested in a theatre trip there are some really cheap last minute tickets currently.

I got £90 Mamma Mia tickets for £25 on the day.

santaclothes · 21/12/2021 14:01

Not with the level of uncertainty there is now - west end shows are closing left, right and centre.

FilterFrog · 21/12/2021 14:03

Where did you get the tickets from @Alarmset ?

Poisinedmummy · 21/12/2021 14:05

Is it only fools? We went last night was brilliant
Cheap seats too, hard to distance but everyone wore masks only concerning thing was no covid passports were asked to be seen

Hbh17 · 21/12/2021 14:09

Try TKTS or Today Tix for last minute tickets
Helpstopthepain · 21/12/2021 14:13

@Halloaten

I'd go. I wouldnt test for covid afterwards though
@Halloaten why wouldn’t you if you planned to meet with family?
Alarmset · 21/12/2021 14:16

Yes. Todaytix

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 21/12/2021 14:18

I took both children to an arena event on Sunday with around 6000 people.

I wore a higher grade masks but most other adults weren’t wearing one once seated. We had to show covid passes to get in.

I wouldn’t have cancelled as the DC were excited.

I went last Weds. Travelled by train, wore masks, kept reasonable distance in the pub. Have tested most days since, OK so far.

Everywhere very quiet so not difficult to keep your distance.

SilverRingahBells · 21/12/2021 14:21

I wouldn't go today because I'm visiting vulnerable relatives over Xmas so there's a good chance I'd be incubating it while we were there. But if I wasn't going until the 28th then I'd probably go ahead because we'd have time to cancel family if necessary - assuming this isn't your last chance to see terminally ill granny or sister about to emigrate to Japan.
