Rules for street what's app

Macey78 · 21/12/2021 08:33

I've become an admin of the group what's app group. I'd like to post some rules I. Be polite and respectful, if you leave the street then remove yourself, what else are good rules. Can only join if you live on this or neighbouring road,

Any other good rules
How do you introduce someone to the group?

Standard WhatsApp rules for our work group are:

Be respectful
No posting about religious or political views
Use the “reply quote” function if replying to someone’s message so the chat makes sense
Remember that groups work best if you read and participate. Don’t just post but never read others chats

MsJuniper · 21/12/2021 08:43

Don't message between 10pm-7am unless urgent

heterosexualwoman1924638169 · 21/12/2021 08:49

Mother. I am leaving the house. I have packed my things. This is all because you wouldn't give me my chicken nuggets last week. Sincerely, your child. Smile

Bimblybomeyelash · 21/12/2021 09:00

Are rules really required?

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/12/2021 10:57

Why would you need rules? Either you all know each other (or at least want to), in which case you'll have a vested interest in being civil to one another, or you don't know each other/ live too far away to know each other and therefore have no business texting each other anyway.

If anyone is rude that will inevitably reflect poorly on them to people who know them, and you can just remove them anyway.

SlowBoiledFrog · 21/12/2021 10:59

First rule? Don't join street what's app.

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2021 11:02

I don’t think you need rules. It’s not face book with thousands of posters. They are grown ups. Let them be.

I wouldn't bother with rules either for a street whatsapp. It's sort of infantilising.

Akire · 21/12/2021 11:08

There will always be people who push things though. For example no privately messaging anyone from this group unless asked to do so. There always be men who think oh number 28 is single I try my luck now I have her number.

Having small list of rules is easier to remind people about without being seen to be to “picking on” them.

penguinwithasuitcase · 21/12/2021 11:10

If it's an already established whatsapp group that you've now become an admin of, surely it's operating reasonably well already?

MissCruellaDeVil · 21/12/2021 11:32

Not sure you need rules? Are you on a power trip over WhatsApp admin😂

Corbally · 21/12/2021 11:48

This. I joined our neighbourhood one recently, after I'd been living in the area a few months, and it appears to function perfectly well on no rules.
Maireas · 21/12/2021 12:40

Why do you need rules?
Our street's WhatsApp was started at the beginning of the pandemic.
No rules. All fine.

WorraLiberty · 21/12/2021 12:43

Cringe! 🙈🙈

Please don't start with the rules. Adults really don't need them.

And if it transpires people actually need to be told to be polite, they're really not the type to give a shit, are they?

MrsPsmalls · 21/12/2021 12:43

No rules here either. Most people just talk about cats, bins and WiFi going down.

Corbally · 21/12/2021 12:44

Hang on, actually, based on one place I used to live: 'Please refrain from posting your own poetry.' Grin

cherryonthecakes · 21/12/2021 12:45

No rules on ours either

GrinGrin We get a few "inspirational" quotes in cursive script, but I just ignore those.
Winterfellismyhome · 21/12/2021 12:47

The first rule of the street Whatsapp is dont talk about the street Whatsapp

Toottooot · 21/12/2021 12:49

I’d be leaving the group if you posted rules. It’s a WhatsApp group - get over it.

bigbluebus · 21/12/2021 12:51

The sort of people who might behave in a way that means you think you need rules aren't going to read the rules or if they do they won't abide by them. Believe me, I learned a lot from being an administrator on a closed Facebook group for a smallish 'support' group. Many a stressful evening deleting posts and blocking members for breaking guidelines and endless emails of appeals and accusations of bullying (by admin against the poster - just for removing posts). My best advice is get rid of the admin role ASAP.

JacquelineCarlyle · 21/12/2021 13:03

There are no rules on our street What's App group either.

This. And you can boot them out if you're admin and they're behaving like t**ts.

@Bimblybomeyelash

No
Redglitter · 21/12/2021 13:36

Is this a new group or an existing one. If its an existing one don't embarass yourself by posting rules. If it's a new one don't embarrass yourself by posting rules

Deal with problems if/when they come up
