Would you put your Christmas tree up if you were on your own?

For various Covid related reasons I'm going to be on my own on Christmas day. I'm ok about it but don't have the motivation to put my tree up. I have some lovely ornaments and it looks beautiful when it's up but cos it's just me, I can't be bothered! It might cheer me up to do it, but everything's so grim right now, what's the point...?

Yes.
Because it makes
Me happy

smurfsss · 20/12/2021 20:43

No

Pinkchocolate · 20/12/2021 20:46

I wouldn’t. Same as above, it’s purely for the DC. I would happily skip it all this year.

longtompot · 20/12/2021 20:53

Yes, I would. I love my tree and the effort of setting it up would be worth seeing it all lit and the decorations all sparkly in the lights.
I would also have lots of chocolates hung on the branches. I don't as my youngest can't eat chocolate and my eldest is allergic to dairy which the chocolates I like contain.

Taswama · 20/12/2021 20:57

Yes, it is likely to cheer you up.

tootyfruitypickle · 20/12/2021 20:57

I've got a 1.5ft prelit one this year in a nook. Best decision ever! And a garland. You can make it lovely but less faffery.

OfMinceAndMen · 20/12/2021 21:18

My mum is on her own and puts her best baubles onto a garland over the hearth. Although, we are only two people and have a tree, so what difference does it make being on your own. I'd CERTAINLY have plenty of fairy lights up for sparkle!

Holothane · 20/12/2021 21:21

Yes I had decorations when I lived on my own the 2nd year I made it Christmas.

Amichelle84 · 20/12/2021 21:28

@flamedancer

Yes. Get yourself a bottle of Baileys a bag of ice. Put some Christmas music/film on and you'll feel glad you did. Hope you have a nice chilled Christmas x

Yes, I live on my own and always put a tree and decorations up. It’s all about self care, why should I miss out on festive fun just because I’m single and have no children.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2021 21:32

Yes, and leave it up a bit longer than my slightly Grinchy husband would!

ttcpatronisers · 20/12/2021 21:36

No, I haven't had one for years. CBA!

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2021 21:38

Yes! Xmas Grin

gsaoej · 20/12/2021 21:39

You sound as though you like the tree so you should put it up. Personally I wouldn’t - but I don’t like Christmas!

OhGiveUp · 20/12/2021 22:02

No, but then I've never put a tree or decorations up yet.
Do what makes you happy OP.

youcancallmeow · 21/12/2021 06:52

yep got mine up i love feeling all cosy with the christmas tree lights and a candle burning
i live alone but i'm not lonely

Tanfastic · 21/12/2021 07:07

I'll be honest, when I lived on my own I never did but I love putting them up now I don't.

CharSiu · 21/12/2021 07:13

We had a terrible tiny silver tinsel tree when I was a child, it was miserable. I now over compensate and have two trees and decorate the hearth, the stairs and also make a home made Christmas wreath.

Do it ! it’s so nice sitting in a room with just Christmas tree lights on with baileys, beer, hot chocolate or whatever you fancy watching tv.

Rainartist · 21/12/2021 08:18

I think I would as I do love it and really it's only me who bothers anyway.

This year we're in a mess with DIY and I really couldn't be bothered and if no kids were here I might not have, but I'm glad I did, it does look lovely despite the mess all around it!

BurningTheClocks · 21/12/2021 08:21

Always. I love a real tree and it delights me to look at it.

peridito · 21/12/2021 09:52

Absolutely .
And it would be a spruce not a Nordman Fir .
And it would be small and perfectly formed .
And not a massive 6' affair that pleases the men in the family .
Who don't clear it away .
