Would you put your Christmas tree up if you were on your own?

For various Covid related reasons I'm going to be on my own on Christmas day. I'm ok about it but don't have the motivation to put my tree up. I have some lovely ornaments and it looks beautiful when it's up but cos it's just me, I can't be bothered! It might cheer me up to do it, but everything's so grim right now, what's the point...?

No way!

muddyford · 20/12/2021 18:46

Yes, because I love it.

OldTinHat · 20/12/2021 18:47

No. I never put a tree up unless I have guests staying.

No. I don't think I'd even bother putting a tree up if it was just me and DP. Just do it for DC really.

HopefulProcrastinator · 20/12/2021 19:04

Nope. Tree only gets put up for husband and children. I can't stand Christmas decorationsor much else about Christmas

gofigureit · 20/12/2021 19:48

I do.
I'm not at mine for Christmas but it's part of the self-love/care I do for myself as I love a real Christmas tree

crosshatching · 20/12/2021 19:49

Yes I would, some of those decorations are old friends. Have a lovely time whatever you choose!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/12/2021 19:49

Yes, I already have. Did the same last year.

Aderyn21 · 20/12/2021 19:53

Yes. My tree brings me joy - I love fairy lights and decorations.
I think if I lived alone it would be really easy for me to slip into not bothering to do anything nice for myself, so I would try to fight against that and do the things which I know make me happier.

Icecreaminwinter · 20/12/2021 19:54

No I wouldn’t. Mainly because it is a major operation getting it down from the loft.

RedCandyApple · 20/12/2021 19:54

I never put a tree up when I lived alone no.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 20/12/2021 19:55

Yes - I love sitting with the tree lights lit in a dark room. Tis lovely.

PurBal · 20/12/2021 19:56

Yes and I have

Georgy12 · 20/12/2021 19:57

I lived alone for years and always got a few poinsettias dotted around and some nice ornaments/candles instead of a tree, I just couldn't be arsed but didn't miss it x

Felsham · 20/12/2021 19:58

My first single Christmas in 10 years and I haven't put up a tree.

LemonGelato · 20/12/2021 20:00

I've strung up loads of fairy lights, got some Christmassy candles and several poinsettias. Have some chocolate tree decs hanging off a pot plant (less than there were yesterday). Might get a mini potted tree for the smell tomorrow if can be bothered.

Def not bothering with the big fake tree, it's for when I am hosting only as its a faff to put up and down.

(I like Christmas Day by myself - quiet, all the food and drink I like. Don't have to share the Baileys or champagne truffles. Less washing up).

LesLavandes · 20/12/2021 20:01

I'm not putting mine up this year. I don't feel very festive

user1471443411 · 20/12/2021 20:01

I would either get a smaller fibre optic, like 5ft, with decorations like poinsettias already on so no need for baubles,
or I would get a nice bushy potted tree, maybe 3-5ft, that would be easy to bring in and dispose of afterwards.

Concestor · 20/12/2021 20:13

I lived alone for ten years and if I was going to be gone Christmas Day then I put it up, if I was going away I didn't bother.

WinterHoliday · 20/12/2021 20:22

I've lived alone for years and always put a tree and decorations up. It's never occurred to me not to!

I have a lot of single friends and most of them have Christmas trees too.

MargaretThursday · 20/12/2021 20:25

Yes... not sure when I'd bother taking it down though.

DDMAC · 20/12/2021 20:27

Probably not, I think I’d travel somewhere hot (if covid didn’t exist)

Megan2018 · 20/12/2021 20:32

I used to have an enormous real tree every year when I was single and lived alone (most of a 12 year run). I’d always have a tree, the effort is worth it.

RosieRoww · 20/12/2021 20:36

Yes.
