Pens other than Frixion

DS in 6th form won't use anything else. I always buy them but I feel they're wasteful. I'd love some recommendations for an alternative he could try. It will be in his xmas stocking, so something slightly special but not too expensive in case he doesn't like it. Happy with refillable pens as long as the refills are not ridiculously expensive or hard to find. Right now Amazon is my most practical shop.

Lamy?

Famous for their excellent budget fountain pens, but their ballpoint ones are also great and refillable (less waste). They also come in loads of colours

You can get frixion refills if you are worried about the waste? I was looking at some yesterday on Amazon I think?

DaisyDozyDee · 20/12/2021 07:54

I don’t quite understand how a different refillable pen would be less wasteful than the Frixion refillable pen he has and likes.
It is wise to avoid erasable pens for exams though. If the paper gets too hot, the ink can disappear.

Is it that he only wants the erasable pens? If so, I’ve tried a couple of other makes (children use them at school all the time) and the other makes were awful compared to the frixion ones. I think it was WH Smith’s own brand and something else.

You can buy a metal frixion pen and multipacks of replacement cartridges for them. I used to use them for marking when I was teaching because we had to use green ink. If he likes being able to rub it out that's probably the least wasteful option.

Yes this re erasable pens. Because exam papers are scanned in, they shouldn't use them for exams.

DD uses Uniball Air but they probably aren't special enough.
