What is wrong with my finger?!

Index finger on left hand. Looks absolutely normal but if I accidentally brush the side of it between knuckle and other joint it is soooo painful! Doesn't hurt if I purposefully press it though. I can't go to the doctor saying "my finger hurts but looks completely normal"! Any ideas? Its been like this for about a week.

Could it be a splinter? Sometimes they are in at an angle so only hurt if touched in a certain direction.

Thanks for the suggestion. It feels like that sort of pain but I can't see or feel any splinters.

gout ?

I’ve had this a couple of times. It sorted itself after a few days - I just assumed I’d got a bruise I couldn’t see tbh.

I have this in just one finger just before an ulcerative colitis flare, I assume it’s an inflammatory response. Do you have any autoimmune conditions?

Not that I know of.
I don't think it can be gout as it isn't visibly different. I'm wondering if it's related to reading my Kindle a lot as I have my finger stretched along the side and only that hand. I will try changing positions!

Dh suffers with gout but doesn't always have the typical redness but his uric acid levels are always through the roof so it is gout.
