I ruined my chutney!

Yesterday, I went for my covid jab then came home and decided to make tomato chutney. I put all the ingredients into my favourite saucepan and waited for it to come to the boil, then turned it down and sat down for 5 minutes. I fell asleep! Woke up to the smell of burning chutney Sad
So far I've tried soda crystals and boiling water, then washing up liquid. Alt other suggestions, I really don't want to lose this pan 🙏🏻

Cold water and out a dishwasher tablet in then bring to the boil and leave simmering. Might have to do it a couple of times but it always saves my burnt pans.

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2021 16:43

Yes to the technique suggested by @IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece. You might still need to scrub a few burnt bits off afterwards but you'll rescue your pan.

This is it, even the spoon is stuck to the bottom!
I'll buy some dishwasher tablets tomorrow and give it a go... thank you Smile

Biological washing tablet plus boiling water from the kettle - leave for 24 hours and repeat as necessary.

Justkeeppedaling · 19/12/2021 17:41

Was the chutney salvageable?

AdoraBell · 19/12/2021 17:44

Hope you can get it back to usable OP I was going to suggest the dishwasher tablets.

Cream of tater! www.hunker.com/13420261/how-to-clean-burnt-pans-with-cream-of-tartar

Saved my good jam pan when someone else scorched it.

No words of advice only heartfelt sorrow.

It is one of the worst if not the worst of the domestic godesses' trials.

The self reproach, the what ifs...ah I see you are still in the 'fixing it' phase.

Yes the idea that takes hold that somehow (possibly my making an entirely new batch of chutney and adding only a small portion of the burnt, repugnant, dead and ruined chutney we already have) all will be well

I am with you this evening.

I feel your pain.

And when the time comes, the painful moment of acceptance of the inevitably of binning the burnt chutney.....I will watch your video and weep with you.

Do pick an appropriate soundtrack.

ohsuzannah · 23/12/2021 16:51

@Yummypumpkin I'm really sorry to disappoint you, my song was going to be the Cream, born under a bad sign.
Here we go, it worked with the dishwasher tablets and some wire wool!
Happy Christmas 🎅 🌲

Yummypumpkin · 23/12/2021 19:29

That is seriously impressive!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 23/12/2021 22:15

It’s a Christmas miracle!

ohsuzannah · 26/12/2021 15:47

Lol! My partner finished it off with a dremel. I made the chutney after all Smile
