Tips to help child take meds?

Posting in chat for traffic! My son struggles and is unable to take tablets, the ADHD meds he's been prescribed are pretty small but he can't manage them with water. Anyone know any other ways to help him swallow them? Thank you!

Put them in a sandwich?
Inside a custard cream biscuit?

Crumble them up and put in yoghurt, custard etc.
or teach him with a reward system eg he gets a prize or choc button or something every time he tries?

Crush and put on a spoonful of yogurt?

Practice with something that is not medicine like TicTacs. Just put one on tongue, anywhere and swallow or drink some water and try not to think about the tictac( or other small sweet)

Can you crush them up and put them in some soft food? Even ice cream!

Has he tried different ways of taking the tablets as well? The rather strange people in my family (Wink) sort of shove them/ throw them to the back of the throat so they minimise the taste.

I just take them with a lot of water.

Thanks some great ideas here. Sadly rewards do not work with my DS but that's a whole other story! X

we used to put DS's hayfever tablet in a half teaspoon of chocolate spread (not crushed or anything).

I struggle with pills - can they be cut in half?

A little spoon of jam with the pill pushed into the middle should help it go straight down. Or a thicker drink like smoothie. Or just any food, take a bite, chew to the point of swallowing, put pill in mouth, swallow with the food.

Depending on the meds some are available in liquid form as well - might be worth checking (if you haven't already of course).

I bought a mortar and pestle and mixed it in with chocolate ice-cream. For breakfast. I know, I know.. I'm a terrible parent but it's the one thing he'll eat without a fight.

Crush them. Is it methylphenidate fast release? (Not the one taken once a day, but the one 2 or 3 times a day?) if so you can absolutely crush them.

I add them into a Tesco strawberry smoothie for ds.
