Cheeses for Christmas cheese board recommendations!

Please hit me with your idea of the perfect cheese board! I'll be buying the cheeses from a large farm shop/deli so most brands or types should be available. Anything not there, I'll nip into Waitrose.

Cheese me up, people!!

A good kaltbach is delicious. If you like cheddar, black bomber is great (and is stocked in Waitrose)

A hard cheese - I like an aged Gruyere
A blue cheese - you can't do better than Stilton, really
A washed rind cheese - I love Stinking Bishop, but this year I have Burwash Rose for a change
A Cheddar, for people who only eat Cheddar
A ripe Camembert or Brie de Meaux

Following.

I had an amazing one from Waitrose a few years ago, it was the size of brie and super runny and stinky but no idea what it was, it was reccomended in The Times and I'd love to pin it down again.

M&S Cornish Cruncher 🤤🤤🤤

PhilCornwall1 · 18/12/2021 18:08

Dorset Blue Vinny. It's a corker.

Belindabelle · 18/12/2021 18:17

@actiongirl1978 might have been Epoisses. I am obsessed with it.

1Wanda1 · 18/12/2021 18:20

A Vacherin Mont D'Or is essential - soft, unctuous deliciousness

For blue: Stilton, Barkham Blue or Stichelton

Montgomery Cheddar or an aged Comté for the hard cheese

Ragstone if you like goat

If you like a washed rind, Epoisses or Langres

Wigmore and truffled Brie are also excellent additions

DeepDeepThought · 18/12/2021 18:20

Omg epoisses is amazing.

Agree with inextremis' categories but I would go manchego over gruyère.

midsomermurderess · 18/12/2021 18:22

I like a bit of Époisses, a washed-rind soft cows-milk cheese, something hard, a Comte or Gruyere maybe, or Ossau -Iraty (ewes milk), and something blue, Stilton, Gorgonzola perhaps.

WildImaginings · 18/12/2021 18:25

Another vote for Ossau iraty!

MKCH · 18/12/2021 18:26

Oooh a good Chaource!!

Kleopatrared · 18/12/2021 18:27

Reblonchon.

Sadmac · 18/12/2021 18:28

My mouth is watering. How big a cheese board can I get away with for Christmas for 5 people?! 😏

I'd add this to it too - picked it up at M&S today and we've just polished it with some fresh baguette - was amazing - now trying to work out how many jars we can justify for the festive period!

We’re having a British cheese board this year, mostly local (NE):

An organic blue cheese
Baron Bigod (a brie-style cheese)
A farmhouse Wensleydale
Caddy’s Cave - a hard cheese

Can’t wait to tuck in!
