She was wonderful. Died far too young, such a tragedy

PaulGallico · 18/12/2021 13:22

I loved Kirsty MacColl- such a sad loss.

FictionalCharacter · 18/12/2021 13:24

Rip Kirsty. Such a tragic death.

Chisandbiscuits · 18/12/2021 13:26

Absolutely loved Kirsty, gorgeous voice and, seemingly an all-round lovely person.

LublinToDublin · 18/12/2021 13:30

I remember the news so clearly Sad

I love her music - such a sad loss. And such a tragedy for her family especially her poor boys.

ScouseQueen · 18/12/2021 13:33

RIP Kirsty, still much missed. And so brave to put herself in danger to protect her sons.

LittleDidSheKnow · 18/12/2021 14:06

Last thing she ever did was push her son to safety.
Horrific what happened to her. At only 41.

Wolfiefan · 18/12/2021 14:08

How is it that many years? I remember being utterly shocked by the news. Such a sad loss for her family and friends.

Elderflower14 · 18/12/2021 19:22

Kirstys late mother Joan wrote a wonderful book about her...

Oh god, her death was bloody awful, and her poor boys witnessed it. A horrible tragedy.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/12/2021 19:26

I actually thought it was longer.

Days is on my list of top ten favourite songs.

Melroses · 18/12/2021 19:31

Her songs were on fire. First saw her on French and Saunders.

England 2 Columbia 0 is my favourite, today. Loved her S American exploration.

There is no one like her.

Elderflower14 · 18/12/2021 19:34

I love the lyrics of Terry...
"You think you are such a smarty but Terry knows about Karate!!" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

HollowTalk · 18/12/2021 19:36

I really loved her, too. Her death was so shocking.

Melroses · 18/12/2021 19:41

@Elderflower14

I love the lyrics of Terry... "You think you are such a smarty but Terry knows about Karate!!" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
"There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's elvis Just like you swore to me that you'd be true There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's elvis But he's a liar and I'm not sure about you"

Was one I grew up with. Grin

But her S American rhythms and trumpety bits were just brill later on.
In these shoes?

Another huge fan here, I have some framed signed photos on my walls at home.

I remember vividly finding out she had died. I was pregnant with dd1 and was at work and read it on BBC news. I was in shock.

@Elderflower14 Soho Square is also one of my favourite songs.

I saw her live many many times. Favourite gig was at the Borderline in London in the early 90s.

bendmeoverbackwards · 18/12/2021 19:48

Yes lyrics are great! Love 80 year old millionaire.

And He’s on the Beach

And Caroline

bendmeoverbackwards · 18/12/2021 19:49

Anyone been to Kirstyfest in London around October time? I’ve always wanted to go but no-one to go with!

MistyMorningSong · 18/12/2021 19:59

Kirsty was fantastic, you can't miss her at this time of year with 'Fairy Tale of New York' following you around everywhere you go.

And just to add another into the mix, 2 days ago it was 20 years since the amazingly talented, and wonderful, Stuart Adamson left us all behind.

RIP to both.

Lunariagal · 18/12/2021 20:01

Still sadly missed

AMerryNickelChristmas · 18/12/2021 20:06

I saw her perform at the Rage Against Racism march in London when I was 16.
She was an amazing person and such an awesome artist.

My other fave lyric
You broke my heart in 17 places, Sh-e-pherd's Bush was only one.
RIP Kirsty. 20 years and the murdering bastard is still free.☹️
