Broken my arm in three places...

Fell off a ladder putting up the outdoor Christmas lights.....In lots of pain and already fed up with trying to do everything one handed. I've basically ruined Christmas for myself and the the rest of the family and I'm thoroughly fed up.
Ive had two plates put in my wrist-has anyone else had that and how long did it take to recover? We live rurally and I don't know what we'll do because I don't be able to drive... what a mess.

Oh @scooterbear that's such bad luck.
You haven't ruined Christmas for your family. I'm sure they're just relieved it wasn't worse.
We live rurally and my only advice is to let your neighbours know. Lots of people will want to help if they can. Don't try and do things you've been told to avoid- it'll hold up recovery.
Hope the pain reduces over the next few days.

The pain will ease quite quickly in my experience of broken bones. Keep on top of painkillers until it does.

You will also learn to do loads of things one handed. I spent 12 weeks in a cast from knuckles to nearly my armpit. By 3 weeks in I could do just about everything, including washing my hair and some cooking. I couldn't put my hair in a ponytail, a friend at work had to do it for me!

Ouch. And what lousy timing. To help speed up recovery, make sure to undertake physiotherapy immediately after the cast is removed. This will also help reduce the risk in the longer term for arthritis.
