Website builder where I can use my own domain for free - do they still exist?!

I used to be able to use Weebly or Wordpress to build a simple website and use my own domain name for the site.

I see now that Weebly and Wordpress now want you to pay an annual fee to use your own domain name.

Are they all like this now? Do any free ones still exist?

Wix, you now need to pay to use your own domain...

To add - this isn't a storefront, it's just a home page. Like a blog really.

It's still possible and free to use youraddress.wordpress.com or youraddress.wix.com.

It's always been a paid feature to use youraddress.com or youraddress.co.uk on both platforms without the '.wordPress' or '.wix' added. You get the "free" domain when you buy a plan from them.

I think their paid plans prices have increased over the years though but I think there's usually some type of deal. Been a while I checked.

Well certainly the last time I did this, about 7 years ago, I could transfer my own domain name to Weebly for free. Now they want £45/year to use my own domain!

Surely there is still a website out there that lets you use your own domain name without an extortionate charge?!

In case anyone searches and finds this thread, I've managed to do one on Google Sites. Relatively basic but it's all I need. Phew!

jassixa, what I chose few weeks ago, when was looking for a reliable website building platform was WordPress. But after that, I've considered of how to prevent security and stability issues, I mean how to save your website-related work. This article helped to understand how to backup wordpress site with minimum actions needed. It's not so hard as I thought it would be.
