It's a Christmas one...but for Theatre lovers

If you love going to the Theatre in the UK, any where in the UK, and someone bought you a gift voucher for a Theatre, would you be happy with this as a Xmas present?

If so, would a local theatre voucher be best or is there a voucher that could give better options? I have no clue as I never get to go and see shows etc but would like to buy a voucher for a theatre goer who goes locally but also to London frequently!

Help much appreciated!

Atg tickets do gift vouchers. Absolutely your best bet….can you be my friend please!

It's very kind and thoughtful of you to want to give them something they would like.

I live in London, and I have to say going to the theatre has been a bit of a faff since COVID. Shows I've booked for have sometimes been postponed, or cancelled, or, if they do go ahead, you have to turn up very, very early so that there's time to do the extra checks around vaccinations. If your friend did pick a show they had to travel to, and it was cancelled, insurance may not refund travel or accommodation fees.

In your shoes, I think I'd either go local, or try to think of something else.

Pre-pandemic I was an habitual theatre goer. Right now I don’t think I’d feel terribly grateful for theatre vouchers - it’s a kind thought but likely to bring stress and disappointment.

Alternatively why not order a selection of contemporary play scripts? Nick Hern would be a good bet:

but they can’t deliver till after Christmas. Amazon could, obviously.

I’d go local. And in my experience, at my (really good!) provincial theatre, you get much more for your money than with London prices. Lovely idea. Will be less stressful from Covid pov in the spring/summer, hopefully.

Thank you all. I decided to pop in money into the card for greater flexibility incase things go down the pan again next year with theatres.

Hopefully she'll be able to book a show without the pressure of a gift card expiry date etc (and of course it goes ahead!)
