And left free to kill again?
Why is the safety of women and children from violent men not being paid even the token respect of remanding an accused double killer? So now he's murdered three innocent people.

Yeah, this story completely baffled me. Both of his very small children died in his care and this wasn’t questioned for years? How did he get away with murdering both of them months apart for so long? I don’t understand. Just a horrible, horrible story.

DanteThunderstone · 17/12/2021 15:25

I'm genuinely baffled at the thinking behind bailing an accused double murderer.

Well the deaths occurred in 2013, and the baby was listed as having died of pneumonia, then later the toddler was unexplained. So without evidence, you can't really jump to: the dad definitely murdered them, he's dangerous, better keep him on remand until the trial. He wasn't even actually arrested until 2018. And by then, the prosecution and defence would have to argue why it would be dangerous for him to be on bail - when he'd seemingly been out and about living his life for years without significant incident (they don't mention when the other attempted murder may have happened). Did he have other convictions? If not, this is akin to any parent being charged with murder over basically a cot death - you probably don't have huge amounts of concrete evidence to work with, do you want to stick them in prison for potentially years till it comes to trial.

I saw this story earlier and was pretty Confused tbh

I think a lot hasn't been reported, reading between the lines this may be to protect the identity of a third child who he was also accused of injuring?

givemushypeasachance · 17/12/2021 15:30

There's an interview they gave to the Daily Fail back in 2013 about losing two children within eight months - it just sounds like tragic cot death/SIDS situations. This even describes the toddler as being found by his mum after a nap, nothing about the dad and a swimming pool. You wouldn't leap to assuming murder. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2404074/Couple-loses-young-children-die-EIGHT-months-doctors-baffled.html

DanteThunderstone · 17/12/2021 15:35

I'm not surprised so much that police didn't realise it was murder in 2013. It presented as SIDS. I'm surprised that when they did realise five years later, he was allowed to stay in society, and kill his partner. 'He was on police bail for their murders when he killed his partner Evie Adams, 23, by poisoning her in 2019.'

Jesus, and attempted murder of a third child…?

DanteThunderstone · 17/12/2021 15:39

Clearly by that point he was believed to a liar, dangerous and someone who kills people close to him. But he was left free to kill again.

The bbc link said he smothered the toddler in a swimming pool changing room; but the daily mail link says the mother discovered the child when he didn’t wake up from a nap…

ChristmasPlanning · 17/12/2021 16:40

Horrific

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/12/2021 16:46

It’s baffling, I’ve only read the bbc piece but raised more questions than it answered.

I am not speculating, merely putting this here, I have no idea if there is a link between the two

drpet49 · 17/12/2021 17:15

This whole case is baffling. How did they manage to convict him?

DanteThunderstone · 17/12/2021 21:46

So if that's the same family, by 2019 he was strongly suspected to have killed two children and to have tried to kill a third, and had a history of choosing vulnerable partners, and he was still left free to murder his new partner. This just gets more appalling.

@ShirleyPhallus

The bbc link said he smothered the toddler in a swimming pool changing room; but the daily mail link says the mother discovered the child when he didn’t wake up from a nap…
He apparently brought the toddler home from the swimming pool in a pushchair with a raincover over him, telling the mother he was asleep. Then he kept suggesting the mother wake him up from the nap whilst he was out of the house. (It says this in an article somewhere, can't remember which.)

It's a very strange/ horrifying case.
