Optimax or Optical express?

I’m considering laser eye surgery and would like to get some recommendations on these 2 companies.
I have been for an optical express consultation and have been quoted around £5000 based on my prescription, whereas Optimax is a fixed price of approx £4000.

I don’t want my decision to be based purely on cost, but a grand is a grand so would obviously prefer to pay the lower amount!

Any experience of either company? I have a high prescription (-8ish) so would be especially interested to hear from someone with a similar prescription who has used either.

Thank you!

I used optimax for a yag procedure which is laser to remove a film that had developed over the back of a replacement lens. They were really good, everything was very efficient and quickly arranged, the people in the centre were friendly and professional, all taken care of very easily.

Used optical express but it was 10 years ago. I was happy with them. They provided me support and advice and when I rung up in a panic a few days before convinced I was gonna go blind they were excellent at talking me off the ledge. The staff were kind and the nurse held my hand when I got scared during the procedure. I'd reccomend them.

But to warm you with a perscription that high you're still not likely to be glasses free and there are more risks involved.

Mine is just starting to detoriate again now but I think that's been a lot to do with screen obsession during lockdown. I had lasek rather than lasik BTW

I had laser eye surgery with Professor David Gartry at Moorfields Private, and it cost me £4,600 including two years' aftercare include "top ups" if necessary.

I had a consultation at Optimax but was soo impressed with Moorfields. I had to pay £100 ish for the consultation but it was more thorough that Optimax.

Professor Gartry is an world-leading exert and performed the first UK laser eye surgery. He was fantastic.

My prescription was -4 and I've never looked back.

Forgot to mention that I had it done in July this year so quite recently, and also they gave me Valium on request!

Should probably mention that I’m in the north west so a bit limited in terms of choice

My DH had a consultation with Optical Express and they were very very expensive, and the salespeople were also very aggressive which really put us off. I’m not sure about Optimax as we didn’t speak to them but I’d say it’s definitely worth shopping around.

I used Optical Express about 10 years ago. My prescription was -7.25 so also pretty high. I've had perfect vision since then but have been told several times I'm very lucky as most people have some deteriation by now.

The surgery was very efficient and I felt the aftercare was also very good. Overall I was very happy with the whole experience.

I went to Optimax in 2006. My eyesight is still good however in the dark I wear glasses to drive. My eyes have deteriorated now to read close up (56) particularly with directions on a bottle etc , what I would say to you is that you have to be careful when you rub your eyes as I get an ouch moment if I rub too hard, and they can get dry. Other than that I’ve no regrets

I know it was two years ago but any update OP? I'm in the NW too and have a consultation next week. Pretty high prescription myself

I'm in London and also looking to get this done.
