Do midwives drug test uk

Do midwives drug test at every appointment?

And also if they did would they have to tell you? In the uk

OP posts:
Raspberryrippleplease · 17/12/2021 12:53

What? I’ve never had even one drug test Hmm

TeddyTonksGirlfriend · 17/12/2021 12:54

No. And yes they have to obtain consent for any testing/procedure.

I was asked to blow into a co2 monitor which would obviously be positive if you were smoking.

Maybe just don't do drugs while pregnant? Seek help if you need it.

TallulahsCurse · 17/12/2021 12:54

Coming back and doing this under a new name doesn't change anything. Tell your midwife about the drugs.

I haven’t been told about any drug test. But am just wondering if from my very first appointment they have been checking my blood and urine for drugs without telling me or do they not do that?

OP posts:
guardiansofthegalaxychocs · 17/12/2021 12:55

I wasn’t. They do ask if you have ever done drugs or something along those lines. I hadn’t. But possibly if you said yes they might ask you to voluntarily do a drug test, I’m not sure?
Certainly it’s not a routine thing.

Teladi · 17/12/2021 12:56

You've been told they don't already.
But you should tell your midwife about the drugs. They can't help you if they don't know

CovidCorvid · 17/12/2021 12:56

They don’t drug test and have to get informed consent before any test. Or a court ordered one.

DropYourSword · 17/12/2021 12:57

This!!
CovidCorvid · 17/12/2021 12:57

However if baby is born showing withdrawal symptoms and they realise youve been taking drugs and not disclosed it then it doesn’t look very good.

WheelieBinPrincess · 17/12/2021 12:58

Oh my god not again OP.

girlbaby85 · 17/12/2021 12:58

I'm sure this is like your third post asking this. The answers aren't going to be different just because you've posted under a new name. You can simply ask the midwife or let them know you were taking drugs before you found out you were pregnant. Or you can keep posting the same question and getting the same answer!

rainbowandglitter · 17/12/2021 12:58

Why do you keep posting this?

I agree. Op you need to tell your midwife if you taking drugs it's in the baby's best interest to do so.
HohohoCoughCough · 17/12/2021 13:06

Just own up if you're drug taking. You'll get found out eventually, especially if your baby comes out poorly, which I hope doesn't happen.

negomi90 · 17/12/2021 13:10

They don't drug test. However some drugs show specific patterns in newborns - they look different to other children.
Babies also withdraw from quite a few drugs and its obvious when they're doing this. Which drug often be worked out, by the timing of the withdrawal. If you're on lots of drugs, then that can be harder to work out which. But the fact that your baby is withdrawing to something will be obvious.
Its far better to be upfront in pregnancy then have midwives and paediatricians questioning you when they've worked it out for themselves based on your baby.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/12/2021 13:12

Weren’t your last many threads useful to you?

Spottybluepyjamas · 17/12/2021 13:23

Everyone has already told you on your other threads. No they don't.

BUT YOU NEED TO TELL YOUR MIDWIFE SO THEY CAN MONITOR YOUR BABY AND GIVE HER THE SUPPORT SHE NEEDS.

This won't necessarily mean your baby is removed, especially as you've stopped taking drugs - this will be in your favour! If they find out afterwards then they will be more keen to remove her because it will look like you're not putting her first. Which will be true.

Tell your midwife, and put your baby first.

JuneOsborne · 17/12/2021 13:26

What if I said they do. And they've been testing every sample of urine you've ever given. They know about the drugs and they know you're lying about them. Would that help?

But really op, if you're pregnant and doing drugs, life isn't good and you need help. And even if you don't need help (in your eyes), then the baby definitely does. You're a mother now and it's time to start behaving like one. Get the help. Tell the midwife. Start a new life today, by being honest and putting your baby first.

Staryflight445 · 17/12/2021 13:27

Have you been taking drugs whilst you’re pregnant?

TallulahsCurse · 17/12/2021 13:34

@Staryflight445

Have you been taking drugs whilst you’re pregnant?
She has yes. But she won't tell the MW and is just currently waiting to see if she will get found out.

Despite thread after thread about this.

Yellow85 · 17/12/2021 13:39

Is this real?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/12/2021 13:40

@rainbowandglitter

Why do you keep posting this?
I think it's because she's still using and doesn't want it to be found out until the baby is born and goes into withdrawal or has life threatening congenital abnormalities from cocaine/MDMA or whatever selection she uses. And then she'll deny it some more.
Staryflight445 · 17/12/2021 13:42

God that’s absolutely awful.

How do you plan on raising a child if you’re using op?

WheelieBinPrincess · 17/12/2021 13:43

Blatantly still using.

Soubriquet · 17/12/2021 13:43

OP, you need to tell the midwife. If not for you, for your baby. Please
