The tube is actually really well ventilated as the doors open every 2-3 minutes for about a minute.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 17/12/2021 15:47

Just have a look at parkopedia that will give the most info.

If weekend you could look on Westminster council’s website to see what on street parking costs.

FreedomDrops · 17/12/2021 15:56

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

It’s criminal, how much it costs and it’s killing the West End.

Weekends and evenings shows be free so people can shop and go to the theatre and eat out. We’ll end with empty shops and restaurants and even more delivery vans.
Add to that the tube strike and it’s an absolute catastrophe.

If it's too expensive then London would have lots of deserted parking spaces. That's just not the case, often the reverse, you'll have trouble finding somewhere to park.
chesirecat99 · 17/12/2021 16:00

TBF, @NotAnotherCrapHamper, don't nearly all car parks in London smell of urine? The underground car parks in Paris used to have perfume pumped through the ventilation system. So much nicer. I wonder if they do that still haven't bothered renewing my passport since COVID?

There isn't much air movement on the tube though, @Ontopofthesunset, although it helps if the windows are open. Most theatres have ventilation systems fanning in air from outside. Plus theatres are asking for vaccine passports or negative LFTs, the tube doesn't. But the most pertinent point when it comes to minimising risk is OP will come into close contact with 3 sets of strangers if she takes the 2 tube twice compared to 1 if she drives.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/12/2021 16:04

Well, it is too expensive for me, and OP is also complaining that of that.

helpadvicewhateverneeded · 17/12/2021 16:05

Always tube. Park somewhere about 10 - 15 mins away. Plenty of places! Where are you going from?

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 16:41

Biwi the theatre has sent fairly... Reassuring info about ventilation.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 16:43

Now I've got the added issue of searching for a car park emitting perfume 😂

If you are going to the theatre just get the tube.

The majority of people are now wearing masks again on the tube. The majority are wearing them again in the theatre.

On the tube you can stand away from the non mask wearers. In the theatre there is nothing you can do if the person next to you takes theirs off.

If you are honestly that worried I wouldn't go.

alrightfella · 17/12/2021 16:55

Having said that, when are you going? Isn't there a tube strike tomorrow?

Sunday will be fine. Loads of free places to park on a Sunday.

FreedomDrops · 17/12/2021 18:44

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Well, it is too expensive for me, and OP is also complaining that of that.
But your accusation was that the price of parking is "killing the West End", not that it was inconveniencing you! Given that there are plenty of people filling London parking spaces as it is, why should anyone drop the price of parking because you and the OP can't afford it!
JuergenSchwarzwald · 17/12/2021 18:51

@Ontopofthesunset

The tube is actually really well ventilated as the doors open every 2-3 minutes for about a minute.
And each carriage has windows which are open. I think the tube is actually probably better than the hermetically sealed mainline trains.

As for the tube strike killing the shops, well have a word with the RMT. They didn't need to strike over the night duties, just refuse to do them.

Mustbemagic · 17/12/2021 19:00

Download the RingGo app and search by map in the Westminster area - it tells you the streets with availability, the cost and maximum stay restrictions (typically 4hrs and charges apply up to 6.30pm around the theatre district).

Alternatively costs and zones are here:
www.westminster.gov.uk/parking/parking-zones-and-prices

Should be able to park for around £20 for 4hrs, so more reasonable than a multi storey.

tectonicplates · 17/12/2021 19:00

Tube strikes have far more of an effect on the West End than parking prices, because most normal people get the tube or bus.

youretwistingmymelonman · 17/12/2021 19:36

Look up the National theatre car park which I seem to remember being £17 per day? Then it's walking distance to west end etc from there

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 19:45

@chesirecat99 just exploring what you've suggested thank you.

I am wholey behind the environmental movement and can't wait for electric cars etc but I have Csnt see the logic in punishing penalty right now in the middle of this crisis?

It's like school insisting uniform is worn which is cold and then having windows open with no heating.
We are in a crisis which ebbs and flows and we should be adapting to that??.. For the short term.

@JuergenSchwarzwald

That's exactly what I said to dh.
I loved the old trains which had proper opening windows.
Which is why I want to drive in and not be trapped in a carriage with no proper opening window

It's not an accusation, it's an observation.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 20:45

Six years ago we wouldn't be financially able to make this trip at all jet alone go to theatre. Its so sad... Many parents won't be able to access the capital at all.

Depending on how close you need to be (and if it was not for tonight) you could use yourparkingspace.co.uk to find a good deal

I parked near King's Cross for £15 here before which was a little sketchy looking but was perfectly fine in reality : www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/locations/show/4294967039

chesirecat99 · 17/12/2021 21:11

Hope you have a good time and find somewhere not too expensive, @Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas.

The place I suggested doesn't have perfumed ventilation like Paris but, funnily enough, it did used to smell of fruity shisha in the mornings from the giant shisha place next door's clouds of smoke emanating from their ventilation fans before the smoking ban. It isn't so fragrant now but it's probably far healthier for your lungs Grin

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 21:23

@chesirecat99

I'm very happy to take fruity shisha scent. 😂
