Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 11:27

Yes we would be paying all that. I thought there were supposed to be deals how can it be that expensive?

About £100 just for transport in??

Some on street stuff is free after 6 or so. But parking is expensive in central London

Figgygal · 17/12/2021 11:30

Id look to park on outskirts and get tube in
You can pay to park on driveways for much less

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 11:33

Isn't parking free on some street after 1lm?

Just Park often have some deals in hotel car parks, particularly if you are slightly outside the most popular areas. Its not going to be cheap though

Madickenxx · 17/12/2021 11:39

Depending on where you drive from, I'd just park on the outskirts and take the tube. For example, I'm in Kent so drive to the O2 and take the Jubilee line. Much cheaper and a less stressful drive.

trying29 · 17/12/2021 11:40

use the website Parkopedia - just put in your destination and it will list all on street and carparks in the area. You can often find free or low cost parking this way

BIWI · 17/12/2021 11:42

Why do you want to drive into Central London?! Much easier/cheaper to get public transport.

Haus1234 · 17/12/2021 11:43

Don’t park in central london! Park in the suburbs near a tube station as PPs have said. If you say the direction you’re coming from and where you need to get to perhaps people could suggest a good area.

Comefromaway · 17/12/2021 11:43

When are you going. It's usually much better to park outside the congestion zone and tube in but be aware of the tube strikes this weekend.

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2021 11:44

Why would you want to drive in London , congestion means average speed is 4mph

Do you have mobility issues?

Jabbawasarollingstone · 17/12/2021 11:48

Agree with others (but I work for TfL). Go to tfl.gov.uk for tube stations car parks, usually much cheaper that Zone 1. Many of my colleagues get to work in this way.

If you have mobility issues and need help you can down load the TfL Go app on Apple or CityMapper/Moovit is also good. Just use contactless on the tube. We have some lifts but not at all stations. Buses are accessible.

Username7521 · 17/12/2021 11:50

Please don’t drive into central London. Parking and taking the tube is much easier for everyone!
Saying that, there are strikes due to the tube from today…

LusciousLondoner · 17/12/2021 11:50

Look at the Q Park on Park Lane, under Hyde Park, I think it's cheaper, and possibly outside the congestion zone

RusholmeRuffian · 17/12/2021 12:47

Parkopedia is definitely worth a look but I would park on the outskirts and get the Tube. Much less hassle and loads cheaper.

KenAdams · 17/12/2021 12:56

That's because they don't want cars in Central London. Unless you have mobility issues, park on the outskirts and tube in.

Lanique · 17/12/2021 13:10

I found a great parking spot recently in zone 2 via Just Park. It was a private driveway a few hundred yards from two tube stops and cost about £20 a day!

MerryMarigold · 17/12/2021 13:13

You can park for very little in Stratford, the eurocarpark. I think it's 6.00. you will need to pay ulez but not congestion and is about 20 min to central London.

chesirecat99 · 17/12/2021 13:34

Where in Central London?

On street parking is £5.10 an hour in the Westminster controlled bits of Soho/West End, free between 6pm and 8am, Sundays and bank holidays, so it would only be £20.40 but you would probably have to move your car after the first 2 hours (most parking spaces have a time limit during the paid hours). Other parts of Westminster are cheaper. The car parks around here are £24.00 for 4 hours (if you move to the free on street parking at 6pm), £28.50 for 6 hours.

The congestion charge ends at Marble Arch/Hyde Park. You can park at the end of Oxford St without needing to go through the congestion zone and for under £30, a lot less than that "theatre deal". ULEZ depends on what you drive.

The NT car park is cheap but it is in the congestion zone.

chesirecat99 · 17/12/2021 13:41

The congestion zone boundary runs along Park Lane, I think as long as you don't turn off Park Lane, it is fine! It isn't the cheapest car park in the area though. The ones off Edgware Road cost less but it has to be on the west side of Edgware Road, the Marylebone side on the east is in the congestion charge zone.
mnp321 · 17/12/2021 13:43

I booked a space via the rent out your parking type website. Was a generously sized single garage, 5 mins north of Baker Street station and outside the congestion charge. £20 for the day. (I had a pre surgery Covid test so wasn't allowed to take public transport).

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 13:56

Biwi

We normally get the train or park outside and tube in.
Due to the current omicron situation I'm thinking cutting out public transport would be better.

Bloodybridget · 17/12/2021 14:00

@imdreamingofapeacefulchristmas if you're willing to go the theatre, what's your problem with using public transport? I'm certainly not criticising your theatre trip btw

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 14:04

@chesirecat99

We are heading to Mary Poppins at Prince Edward theatre

Which is soho.
Or if we can park near ish and get taxi that's fine as well
