Bugger not paid today!

Lochnessgiraffe · 17/12/2021 09:06

New job so only my 2nd pay day but it on the 19th of the month so naively I thought I'd get paid today. According to my bank it'll be Monday. I thought you couldn't get paid after the date set.
Well that has buggered up my weekend I was going to get bits for stockings and some food for Xmas. It's not the end of the world we have food and bills don't come out yet but I'm pissed off.

I get paid on the 16th OP always comes out after if it falls on a weekend, its rubbish, Really sorry doesn;t help any it is annoying though,

Danniotley · 17/12/2021 10:39

Check your bank tomorrow. Weekends aren’t recognised so the money should show tomorrow.

BHX3000 · 17/12/2021 10:41

If my pay day falls on a weekend I always receive the money on the following Monday or Tuesday. Never before.

chasingthunder · 17/12/2021 10:42

If my payday is a weekend I always gets it on the Friday.

itwasntaparty · 17/12/2021 10:42

If my pay day falls at the weekend I get paid the Friday before, I though that was standard. My mortgage goes out on the 1st as do a to. Of direct debits, they'd all fail if I didn't get paid the Friday before. Anywhere I've ever worked has been like that.

Crunchymum · 17/12/2021 10:45

We are the opposite. If payday (26th) falls on a weekend or BH rare we always get it the Friday before.

Elzbells · 17/12/2021 10:45

I'm with Barclays and my salary BACS payment never hits on a Monday it is always cleared on the Saturday.

If it's not paid in time for the Saturday then it clears on Tuesday.

🤞 it's in tomorrow for you

Dollywilde · 17/12/2021 10:45

I’m surprised at people saying they get paid after the contract date if it’s a weekend/BH. Everywhere I’ve ever worked has paid on different days of the month, but the one constant is that if that date is on a non-business day, they pay of the last business day before. And lots of places pay early at Xmas (I’m 23rd of the month so mine doesn’t change but DH is 27th so gets his a week early in December).

Really sorry OP. We’re like you, it wouldn’t be a disaster but it would bugger up my planning.

BingBongToTheMoon · 17/12/2021 10:52

Look again after 12 noon.
Sometimes they drop then too.

bestdhever · 17/12/2021 10:54

But the day isn't over OP I have often checked my balance in the morning and not been paid and then again after lunch to find I've been paid

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 17/12/2021 11:04

NatWest used to pay the working day before if payday fell on a weekend but now they clear funds 7 days a week so if the money is due on the Sunday, it goes into your account on the Sunday.

Lochnessgiraffe · 17/12/2021 11:05

I'll keep checking. I spoke to my boss who was surprised it hadn't gone in

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 17/12/2021 11:08

If you get stuck, do you have a credit card that you can fully clear when your pay does go in so it doesn't mess with your plans?

loudbatperson · 17/12/2021 11:14

Have you checked with payroll that the payment has actually been issued?

Has anyone else's pay not gone in yet?

SleighbellsZ · 17/12/2021 11:17

We get paid the Friday before too.
Keep checking op.

Check with others if they've been paid to make sure it's not been missed

Lochnessgiraffe · 17/12/2021 11:23

My boss hasn't been paid yet either.

OP posts:
loudbatperson · 17/12/2021 11:26

Check directly with payroll. I assume your boss has been there long enough to know how weekend paydays are handled, so if they were surprised, it would suggest this is out of the ordinary.

Foolsrule · 17/12/2021 11:28

Legally if it’s a certain day then it needs to be that day or before.

tickingthebox73 · 17/12/2021 11:53

@Foolsrule

It will be in her contract. "legally" I am paid the day before if it falls on a weekend as it's what is stated is in my contract, but it could easily be stated "19th or next working day" in which case it would "legally" be Monday.
Lochnessgiraffe · 17/12/2021 12:40

Just checked my contract it says on or around the 19. So Monday is OK unfortunately. Will keep checking just in case

That's awful. How are you supposed to plan around 'on or around'?

cheesypasta · 17/12/2021 16:28

It's always paid on the Friday for me if the standard payment date falls on a weekend. Sorry OP, how frustrating when it's the time for getting Christmas shopping done.

Lochnessgiraffe · 17/12/2021 18:08

It's frustrating but not the end of the world. I'm visiting my parents this weekend and was planning buying stocking fillers but it's OK. I'll just buy less.
I work in engineering and we have a factory I can't imagine people are pleased

OP posts:
wallysally · 17/12/2021 18:11

@Lochnessgiraffe why won't ppl be best pleased? You said pay day is the 19th...it's only the 17th!
Ppl should budget accordingly reallyConfused

icedcoffees · 17/12/2021 18:13

Lots of places pay "every fourth Friday" for example, so you can't plan around dates etc. I thought it was normal.
