London theatre tomorrow? Wwyd

Shall we go stay?
If people are staying away hopefully the theatre won't be packed, apparently they have good air ventilation which cleans the air?
We can drive in and get a taxi to avoid public transport. Not sure what to do.
All boosted a week ago, perhaps not long enough?
Dc recently had covid in late Sept /October.

We’re going tonight but live in central London zone 1 anyway and can literally walk to the theatre although we are not.
I have to live normally get on busses got to appointments in packed places child in school not sure how id feel if we lived outside though my main worry is that it gets cancelled tbh.
Not much help but you are not alone

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/12/2021 07:42

your decision

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/12/2021 07:43

what would happen if you got covid?

toastofthetown · 17/12/2021 07:45

I would only be worried about it impacting on my Christmas plans. I’d move it until just after Christmas if I could.

InglouriousBasterd · 17/12/2021 07:47

Because I’m desperately hoping to see my family this year I’ve moved my tickets to between Christmas and new year - It just felt too risky, seeing the number of performances closing. If I wasn’t planning to see (vulnerable) family, I’d still have gone - I think it depends on your plans and circumstances.

THNG5 · 17/12/2021 07:47

I'm off to the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow. Can't wait! Mask and sanitiser at the ready but the only thing that would keep me away is them cancelling.

Bunnycat101 · 17/12/2021 07:48

We’ve just cancelled our trip over the weekend and I’m gutted tbh. I was up for going but my husband was really uncomfortable with increasing risk with tube etc when we don’t need to. We can move our tickets. I’ve got another event on next week that will be harder to exchange.

rookiemere · 17/12/2021 07:50

Depends what Christmas plans you have and if you're seeing anyone vulnerable. If not I'd probably go for it. What are you going to see ?

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 07:50

We don't have any relatives to see, no old lonely people etc.
So if we succumbed it wouldn't have that much impact.
It's public transport I'm most concerned about.
Someone said by Xmas at the doubling rate nealry everyone in London could have it?

rookiemere · 17/12/2021 07:51

Yes avoid public transport if you can.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 07:51

Bunny I don't know if we are allowed to move out tickets

Peakedtoosoon · 17/12/2021 07:52

I'd go (would have today if the show hadn't been cancelled!) but I don't have big plans for Chrisrmas Day, this lead up is the best bit for me.

If I had something important to me happening in the next couple of weeks I wouldn't go.

ChristmasRobins · 17/12/2021 07:53

If a positive test won't affect your Christmas plans, I'd probably still go. We cancelled a concert tonight because we're hoping to spend Christmas with my elderly parents.

underneaththeash · 17/12/2021 07:56

Kids all got covid at the theatre four weeks ago!

It's up to you. They were quite unwell, DH got it a week later. But all my london friends who currently have covid have had it VERY mildly.

Do you have elderly relatives who you're seeing over Christmas?

windowstothesoul · 17/12/2021 07:57

I would go - it - three reasons 1 - it May all get worse in spring time with restrictions so go now while you can.

2 - There is a chance of getting it - but You could pick up the virus at a weekly shop/somewhere local -

3 - I think we have to try and carry on with life & enjoy small pleasures like the theatre while we can.

We are going over the festive time, just hoping they don't cancel it or the government don't!

Clymene · 17/12/2021 07:57

I wouldn't because of elderly relatives but if that isn't an issue I'd go.

LaLaFlottes · 17/12/2021 07:57

If it won’t mess up any other Christmas plans, I would definitely go to be honest. Mask, hand sanitiser and walk rather than public transport wherever possible.

JKDinomum · 17/12/2021 08:00

We were supposed to go on Saturday and have just cancelled because DH feels uncomfortable about it. These tickets have already been postponed twice (once during lockdown, second time I got Covid). Now rebooked for next May! So frustrating but I don't think DH would enjoy it as he'd be worrying. We'd have had to do a 90 minute train journey and the tube to get there.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/12/2021 08:01

have you got your christmas day food already in the house?

Eightmagpies · 17/12/2021 08:02

We're travelling to RAH tomorrow too

WheelieBinPrincess · 17/12/2021 08:07

‘Nearly everyone in London could have it’

Oh please. Stay away if you’re going to be all anxious and spouting nonsense like that.

fournonblondes · 17/12/2021 08:08

Do your own risk assessment.Your next days plans. If you are protected. If the show is that important for you?

Bunnycat101 · 17/12/2021 08:09

It’s a really hard balance of risk really. We can exchange our tickets and will probably take the chance to upgrade to better seats. I’m still pushing to do our Santa visit on Sunday but it’s largely outside, won’t require public transport etc so the risk while still there it is lower. I’ll decide on my other event closer to the time bit trickier as going with friends and I suspect we’ll all have slightly different levels of risk. That one is insured but assuming I’d actually need covid to be able to be able to claim.

Plexie · 17/12/2021 08:12

There's a thread about how busy is London at the moment. A lot of people are saying the West End is busy, especially on weekends. So if you think tomorrow is going to be quieter than usual (and bear in mind this close to Christmas it's usually even busier) I think you'll be in for a shock.

I live in London and I'm going into central London today, but I know my way around on foot and can navigate to avoid the hotspots. I wouldn't go this weekend.

Having said that, where is the theatre and is it a more modern building, eg National Theatre or Barbican? They are more spacious and I'd have more confidence in the air quality/ventilation. But if it's one of the old West End theatres where you're crammed in I'd probably give it miss.

Are you planning to eat? I definitely wouldn't be in an indoor space with no masks.

Mollymalone123 · 17/12/2021 08:12

We went last Saturday and the theatre were excellent- air circulation system-staff went round checking people were wearing masks-u could order drinks to your seats so no queues at the bar-also the theatre had spaced out the seating so that there were large gaps between seats.Felt v safe-public transport was the biggest issue-we just were meticulous and both took our own hand gel and made sure we used it after touching handles etc in train and tube.It will be much quieter on public transport now too
