It's only right!

Voted. I love her - what a woman. She has created a magical world I can share with my daughter. She stands up for women's rights with grace, humour and strength. Her charity work is incredible.
We love you Jo!

DappledThings · 16/12/2021 23:13

@Heruka

What was it, DappledThings? I feel that day is coming for me too but still biding my time. It’s ridiculous how scary it is.
We are being asked to submit views on whether our organisation should reapply for Stonewall recognition. Academic freedom was described today as a "figleaf" for allowing transphobic views to exist.

That form took me 3 attempts to submit. The Guardian ought to be a bit better at phone optimisation!

HollowTalk · 16/12/2021 23:22

@inmyslippers

Can we all please inundate the guardian with how wonderful she is 😊
This is a really good idea. I'm on it tomorrow.
wincarwoo · 16/12/2021 23:32

Done. That was satisfying.

Soontobe60 · 16/12/2021 23:51

@VladmirsPoutine

JK could have gone down as one of the greats of our time but instead she chose to shit on her own legacy. I'll get why. In her shoes I'd have sat in my castle and used my money and resources to help others less fortunate. But alas.
Did you not know about the $160 million she’s donated to charity? Or the taxes she pays in the UK because she hasn’t swanned off abroad to avoid paying them?
MissMinutes24 · 17/12/2021 00:03

I sent in a nomination for her

Furries · 17/12/2021 00:51

I’d never normally look at these threads re voting for people. Am so glad I looked at this one. My vote has been added (I hope!).

Not just for having the courage to stand up for the very basics regarding being a woman, but for the amazing work she’s done for charity. I can’t comment on her writing, I’m one of the few weirdos that has not read her books. Please don’t judge me for that!

Shodan · 17/12/2021 01:07

I've nominated her too.

It would be nice to think that the Grauniad would acknowledge someone who will , one day, be proven to be on the right side of history, but I suspect they're not quite there yet.

BasiliskStare · 17/12/2021 01:32

@Soontobe60 - I agree with you - yes she is worth a fortune , but unlike other people she has not chosen to live in a tax haven and not pay UK tax - so I reckon that entitles her to pipe up once in a while. I do not agree with all her views & I really don't but on the issue of trans women I think she is spot on & could have chosen to sit in one of her houses and left it. But she hasn't - she has put her head above the parapet . She has my vote

LimpLettice · 17/12/2021 02:18

Nominated her and went to town on the comments. It's about time The Graun & other MSM apologised for the demonisation of her. Her charitable work alone is worthy enough, he undending, unerring support for women, children and actual gender non conforming people is the face of such nastiness is so commendable. She is a phenomenon. Shame Grauniad et al would rather die than admit it.

Atmywitsend29 · 17/12/2021 03:58

Nominated!

Bloodybridget · 17/12/2021 04:27

Nominated! Of course there's not a snowball's chance in hell of the Guardian publishing the result, should JKR be the winner.

IloveJudgeJudy · 17/12/2021 04:57

Done! I'm usually lazy with this sort of thing but she's so great and puts her money where her mouth is and as for standing up for women's rights, no one does more.

MorbidMuch · 17/12/2021 06:03

Nominated!

ArabellaScott · 17/12/2021 06:49
Xmas Smile

Done!

A woman I am so proud to celebrate. Her bravery and integrity shine so very brightly.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/12/2021 06:51

What a great thread. Will vote immediately. The tax JKR is paying, not avoiding, as she so easily could, must be a useful chunk of public spending in Scotland. Her charitable work is remarkable. She has spoken out on an important issue for women, girls and vulnerable people who need safeguarding. She is doing this because she can't be 'cancelled', although the way she is being treated as a consequence must be horrible. She is a strong and principled woman.

CorvusPurpureus · 17/12/2021 07:19

Yup, nominated.

Teens also bunging a nomination in.

BringMeTea · 17/12/2021 07:22

An amazing, wonderful woman. She makes the world a better place for sure.

FOJN · 17/12/2021 07:31

I don't get how it is transphobic and I wish someone would actually show a quote or something where she says she's anti transpeople.

They can't because she had said the exact opposite, I believe she said she would march right along side trans people to protect their rights. Her view is simply that advancing trans rights shouldn't be at the expense of women.

She's an amazing woman; donates to charity, doesn't dodge tax and speaks up for women's rights even when it would be easier for her to stay silent.

I love how apparent it is that her detractors, on this thread, have no idea what she actually said or any knowledge of her charitable work. We can safely disregard their veiws as completely uninformed.

Porcupineintherough · 17/12/2021 07:50

Her view is simply that advancing trans rights shouldnt be at the expense of women

Which is exactly what TRAs object to. But it doesnt look good to put that on a banner, far better to rant on about "hate speech" and "transphobia"

AgnesWaterhouse1566 · 17/12/2021 08:03

Done. And I'm another who would never normally get around to this sort of thing.
I do hope the Guardian post the full list of nominees, I suspect not though.

Stormwhale · 17/12/2021 08:08

Done. She is an absolute inspiration. I love her work, her integrity, her generosity, her dignity and her bravery. She has been totally misrepresented in the media and has handled the whole thing with aplomb. Amazing woman.

jetadore · 17/12/2021 08:17

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

Im a bit fed up of being told what to do and what to think on here
No you’re not.
