I just need to tell someone, dentist related!

I have had a life long phobia of the dentist, I am from the “drill and fill” era where dentists seem to be satanic butchers! I haven’t been to the dentist for 20 years and a few weeks ago my tooth broke in half. After ringing over 50 dentists I found one that was taking nhs patients about an hour from my house.
For the past two weeks I have convinced myself that I have gum disease and my teeth were going to fall out, I suffer with anxiety anyway and I’m not joking when I say I’ve cried a lot (and googled a lot) thinking I was going to have all my teeth taken out/drop out!
Today I held my anxiety and walked into the dentist, he was the nicest of people and although my teeth are in a bad way and not great at all, they are no where near as bad as I thought, I need several fillings but he wasn’t horrified or disgusted at me and I no alot
Of people have a similar fear to me so just wanted to share my experience!!

Well done you for pulling the courage together to go. I don't love the dentist (who does?!!), but my dentist is always gentle and considerate, and makes the whole thing much less terrifying! Hope your treatment goes well.

I had similar issues. School dentist made a complete mess. Did unnecessary work and left me with an abcess. Didn't see a dentist for over 10 years. Sad, as I loved my childhood dentist.
Broke a tooth on popcorn. Found a local dentist. He was awful. He cut my face with a needle! A don't fight dentist. I know they only do what they need to... so how He gashed my upper lip, I have no idea.
Moved house. Found a new dentist who is lovely. Tells you what he is doing. He is great. I have seen him every 6 months for the last 20 years. That makes me feel old!
Glad you have found a nice one. O think there are more good than bad now.

I actually quite enjoy going to the dentist (I know!) my dentist is lovely and always explains what he's doing, in fact he does not stop talking!
I've recently been for a couple of hour long procedures and in the second one I was pretty relaxed!
Well done you for going, you should definitely be proud of yourself!
